I have now seen the leaked ending script and can definitively say THAT is the canon ending. Bless these writers for doing their best to deliver a queer love story under severely homophobic conditions.
**Apologies for the subtitles getting cut off in episode 6--the video settings were where I needed them for livestreams, not recording, and it's been a while since I did a livestream so my ADD ass forgot to double check. If you're watching for the first time, I'd recommend watching these beforehand so you know what's going on. Will be fixed from here on out!

Thank you so much for reacting to Killer and Healer! The cinemetagrophy and costuming are so lush, and I absolutely adore the relationship between Yuzhi and Yuelou. I saw your reaction in Episode 33 to the poem that Chen Yuzhi cites before Yuelou gets shot; it makes their love even less subtxtual and absolutely foreshadows the tragic ending of the series (although, yes, I too subscribe to the other ending!). The translation of Jiang Yuelou is βmoon over the riverside tower", and comes from a Song Dynasty poem called Picking Mulberries, in which the poet laments the transitory nature of their relationship with their lover by wishing that their love were like the moon by the riverside tower...only companionship and no separation. There's an explicit BL comic/book, if I remember correctly. And they were clever - they filmed those scenes, cut them out before giving the drama to the censors, and released the cut scenes as goodies on their official channel. Way to cheat the system.

The deleted scene you questioned - the only thing different was that it switched back and forth between the two parties more often, so we see Jiang Yuelou watching the whole thing a bit more. Also, one other thing - you got some information confused, but if I tell you what it was it could be considered a spoiler, so I'll wait on that.

A stunning period piece like this just pulls you in and makes you feel like you are there in the room with them. Also, fun fact I heard online that may or may not be 100% accurate. Apparently main actor police guy (I always forget his name) was supposedly picked to play zhou zishu in word of honor and then something happened and then the part went to zhang zhehan.

The one from episode two was especially good, but there will be many more that are almost as daring. (The funny thing is, they got cut out before the episodes got to the censors, so nobody seemed to blink an eye when Mango TV uploaded them to their official YouTube channel a few days after release of the episodes.)

They of course didnβt have the name back then. So I think it is more than just trauma - but the trauma is probably not helping. I could be wrong, but I think I read about it in a premise before I started the show

So excited to rewatch this with you, and definately appreciate you going OFF about the cinematography, set design, costuming, etc. If others haven't already warned you......I STRONGLY recommend you introduce alcohol at some point during the series. You will probably need it--republican-era dramas tend to be kiiiiind of brutal, and this is no exception.

Β°^^ You are absolutely allowed to gush about framing and camera angles and the cinematography β€οΈ I don't mind, I actually find it kinda cool, because I am always like: "well, something's going to be revealed, something's off or mmmh, that seems to be revealing a future plot point" but I wouldn't know how it is actually, literally put into frame and the composition of everything to get that feeling. I only notice when it's really obvious. And it's cool to see the series through those eyes. Also, yes! Stunning sets! The costumes! I've only watched this series till episode 5, I think, and then I got distracted, but I'm looking forward to continue to watch it with you :D
