Ken Southworth (September 22, 1918 – December 6, 2007) was an animator who worked for a number of major animation studios throughout his nearly 60-year career, including Walt Disney Studios, Hanna-Barbera, Filmation, Warner Bros. Animation, the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio, Walter Lantz Productions, and Clokey Productions. His credits included Disney's Alice in Wonderland and Legend of Sleepy Hollow, as well as Hanna-Barbera's The Flintstones, Space Ghost and Dino Boy, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and The Smurfs among others. (source Wikipedia).
Animation Historian Ray Pointer and Ken Southworth collaborated on a 3-part series on basic, secondary, special animation techniques in the late 1990s. At the time, it was one of the first such programs available. The program included two practice manuals as well. This is an excerpt from the first program, covering basic animation techniques.
This program is no longer available, however, Ray Pointer was kind enough to provide me with the VHS copies for me to digitize and present here. I have edited different parts together to create a more cohesive theme.
Ray Pointer has a website/store where you can find other animation anthologies on DVD & Blu-ray. Check it out here: http://inkwellimagesink.com/
