Oh, my! I seem to be transforming!
An inadvertent TF! Those are always fun. In case anyone doesn’t know what a Komainu is, here’s the Wikipedia entry:
Often called lion-dogs in English, are statue pairs of lion-like creatures either guarding the entrance or the honden, or inner shrine of many Japanese Shinto shrines or kept inside the inner shrine itself, where they are not visible to the public. The first type, born during the Edo period, is called sandō komainu, the second and much older type jinnai komainu.
So, this will take place in Japan. But, WHEN in Japan will this take place
1) Edo Period (17th-18th century. What most of us in the West think of as "Feudal Japan". Think Kurosawa films: Samurai and ladies in kimono everywhere!)
2) Meiji Restoration Period (Late 19th Century. This is after Commodore Perry "opened" Japan up to the west. Lots of foreign influence in dress. Lots of Westerners around, as well)
3) Modern Period (2000-2019. That's now-ish. Miyazaki-loving Westerners and Otaku abounding )
