Let's Play TORTUGA 1667 - UNCUT

Avast!

Hello, all. We have TWO versions of Uncut for you today, one WITH the talking heads included (above) and one WITHOUT the talking heads (https://youtu.be/s2dsfeNCm0E).

For sake of beloved Editor James and his workload/sanity, we'd like to find the option that the majority of the patrons like, so here's both for this week, and we'll shortly drop a poll to see which ends up winning the day :)

Let's Play TORTUGA 1667 - UNCUT

Comments

I'm team talking heads! Used to watch both videos side byside

Suizie

Still eagerly waiting for the poll about talking heads versus none in the uncut videos (for the record, I'll happily go back to scanning through the edited videos for the talking heads if needed, but I super appreciate the talking heads being in the uncut version - it's sooo much easier <3 ) and am also wondering if we're getting a Patreon menu for July? Always so excited to see what's coming up for the month! Congrats on 200k and thanks again for the many many hours of incredible, magical entertainment!!! <3 <3 <3 :)

shywolf

Holy shitsnacks, congrats you guys, you deserve it! 🤘🤘

Simfers

I mean it seems like a VERY small minority want the version with no talking heads. At some point it becomes a question of "do we put in more work for such a tiny minority when that minority can just fast foward a few seconds and skip the bit they don't like"

Anna McCray

CONGRATS ON 200K 🎉🎉

Adah Kinzer

I love the talking heads, in some of the games it just adds that additional bit of levity needed in an otherwise serious game. I can't imagine the Nemesis vids without them.

Steve Skew

Maybe the solution is that those people who dislike particular short segments of the video just use rewind buttons? I'd rather have the crew focus on producing different content than forcing every video on the channel to have more different cuts than Blade Runner

Sergey Tatarintsev

I don't know, people seem pretty starkly divided on this issue. Do you really gain anything if you please the technical, statistical majority, but disregard the rest? Maybe the third solution is to look into getting your editor some extra assistance, or time, or whatever, and thereby also prepare for future growth?

DonAthos

I personally would like a cut of just the talking head footage, with some extra bloopers during that filming specifically. Shows more of the backend of NRB and might show possible other inside jokes for later.

Richard Pryor

No real connection to the talking appendages, but one thing I'd be interested in seeing is a kind of post-mortem segment after a game is over where the gang can talk about their general strategy and key moments of the game that affected their moves, their experience playing it, and so on. A kind of post-match analysis, to borrow some sports-style vernacular.

Simfers

Talking feet.

Scott Moore

i prefer the no-talking heads. It differentiates between the public and private experience, rather than just making the private one the same but longer.

socks

I like the talking heads. They're funny and the personalities of the players shine there.

Adrienne Tabb

I'd prefer both versions just as they are unedited like this? Don't have to edit them and then people can watch the one of their choice OR (in my case, watch both at once on different monitors)

Sam Underwood

more talking heads for the uncut version

Meh

Hey friends! So, I'll give my take on talking heads vs non-talkings heads; I love both. That being said, I watch the Patreon uncut episodes AND the regular YouTube versions. I noticed since those are cut, those have the talking heads while the uncut Patreon episodes are well, uncut! I guess what I'm saying is, the formula you have where the Patreons episodes remain uncut and the general access episodes with the talking heads works fine as it is. I truly re-watch all episodes...so I watch the cut with talking heads and the uncut anyways 🤣 Love all the content, and don't want to lose either lol

Bobby G.

I find the talking heads jarring, cringy and not really that funny. The guys are so naturally funny, charming and full of charisma that the talking heads really aren't needed. The best part of the videos is the unscripted, spontaneous and genuine moments of joy. I feel the talking heads kill those moments and disturb the flow and enjoyment of the game play.

Anthony Mallett

Please no talking heads! People need choices and not to be stuck with one version.

Pretty sure they made a mistake there, yeah.

Vihyungrang

Love the talking heads version, personally. I just had the regular YT version playing on mute in the background as well to give you the views from there too. EDIT: Having read some arguments in favour of no talking heads, I must admit it's a good point that those who prefer their BGC without the heads would now be left with no choice, which doesn't seem ideal. While I love them, I get their point. Either way, I'm not going away over this. Also, Sully's accent was impossible. LOL

Simfers

Pretty sure Laurie marooned Jon with the black spot despite it being Laurie who should have been marooned with it right? Or was the graphic wrong and it was a pistol?

Maisie Beelzebelle Snowdon

' Mes amis ' is plural, Adam. You would address Laurie by ' mon ami ', ' my friend ; singular. Also, Italian food > French food.

Luigi Scazzari

Talking heads please!!! It’s one of the reasons I prefer the YT version. If we could have UNCUT & TALKING HEADS I would literally upgrade my Tier 🥹

Danny Eagle

I prefer the no talking heads. It's just my personal opinion that they are mostly not funny at all, forced and bring you out of the "zone" of the gameplay. It's actually a good thing to have them only on the public version, for the channel, as you get views on there from Patreons as well. More views equal more Patreons over time as exposure is bigger and algorithm will bring in more views. If you have them in here as well, then Patreons no longer have the reason to view the videos on the channel. Maybe offer a different Patreon level that will include the talking heads. Not more expensive, just different.

Emir Samardzic

I watch the uncut videos to avoid talking heads, they disrupt my train of though while i am watching, so I prefer them to not be included.

Felrin

I'm not a fan of the talking heads, they really disrupt the flow of the game. But perhaps a compromise would be to add the talking heads and put chapters in the YouTube video to make them more easily skippable.

Michelle Bertram

I really enjoy the talking heads. I don't have the time to rematch board game club twice normally so I feel I miss out on a lot of jokes

Adam Hall

I watch the Cut version for the talking heads. Then later (sometimes weeks later) the Patreon version for the full game. I would LOVE to have the Extended Cut each time. Then I would only watch the Patreon version (and run the YT version in the background to drop a like and a view).

Knut Behrend

So, I would always watch both the uncut version, so I could see how the game would play around a table with my own friends, and watch the main version for seeing your bits, which are always great. This "Extended Cut" version is the best of both. I do want the General Public version to do well, so ill still probably watch that to appease the algorithm gods.

FunkyMrChicken

If there's talking heads on both, and no talking heads on neither, then we get nothing but a worse viewing experience, one which we pay for no less. Why shouldn't we be unhappy about that?

J.R. Wall

I really enjoyed the talking heads in this video and tend to enjoy them overall.

Dalestair aka NightmareZodiac

I loved having the talking heads. It felt weird that there were bits in the public cut that weren't in the patreon cut. One thing I will say is that if you continue having the talking heads in the patreon version (which I really hope you do), then it might make more sense to rename it "Extended Cut" instead of "Uncut".

Michael Truex

I don’t like the talking heads personally but ffs my no-talking-heads comrades, this is not the hill to die on. Let the people have the talking heads.

JLS

I like to have the talking heads, but almost always watch it twice so can get those from the public version.

Lindsay M.H.

Loved that game! Very fun :) Sully and his Albatrosses was such a wonderful image! As a French viewer I very much enjoyed your renditions of our accent honhonhon. As for the talking heads I would definitely say without for the uncut version. Personally, I am ok with both but I think it’s only fair for the people who prefer to enjoy the content that way to have an option without having to fast forward to keep the flow they enjoy.

Pockett

I prefer with because it then feels like I don't have to watch both the public and Patreon versions just to get the full content. Without them is okay, but then I feel like I have to watch *both* versions or I'm missing out and I just do not have that kind of time.

Anna McCray

You can skip the talking heads, why should I have to watch the full video twice just to get the full content?

Anna McCray

If it's not possible to do both, I'd vote no on talking heads - I really like that the Uncuts are fully authentic experiences with all the friendly chat between rounds, whereas the regular uploads are more polished and with the post production MTVish talking heads - which I really think feel a lot more acted compared to the genuineness of the main stuff. I've seen a few people suggest adding the talking head reel at the end of the Uncuts and that I'd be cool with - especially if you included TH bloopers and behind the scenes footage of them being prepped and stuff.

Allison J. James

Please vote no on Talking Heads. If you want talking heads, watch the edited version. Give the people who don't enjoy talking heads, who find that it hurts the pacing, or finds it inauthentic, or don't find it funny or entertaining, or just don't enjoy the concept, a version of NRB they can watch. It makes far more sense for the edited version to have cutaway segments than for the uncut version to have them.

J.R. Wall

I understand that the talking heads could be more difficult for James and that it brakes the uncutness, but the taking heads also tend to be too funny and I would honestly like to see them again

Gonzalo Valenzuela

I strongly prefer the talking heads - I miss them on uncut videos that lack them (especially on ones like Nemesis). Moo

DrReiCow

I didn't know that happened, yeah that is a massive point against them

Hannah Winter

i vote against including them in large part because there have been some social deduction videos where adam does the whole "close your eyes if you want to play along and not know who's the traitor" and then when the round starts there's an immediate cut to a talking head of someone saying "so i'm the traitor"

Colleen

Talking heads😍

Steijn van Doorne

My take was that despite it being called 'uncut' it's more like a director's cut with all the content that was previously cut from the regular episode, so I'd argue it wouldn't make sense NOT to include the talking heads to the definitive cut of the episode. That very much could just be me, though.

Matthew C

imo it doesn't make sense to put them into the uncut version, it quite literally cuts up the video and the flow of conversation, which is kinda the whole point of the uncut version. there should be an option for people who dont want them. if you want to see them then watch them, on the cut version.

fronk

Big yes for the talking heads, uncut to me means most complete experience. I’d rather not have to watch the video twice to get all the content.

Jake Evans

Strongly agree, you managed to word the rambling idea I left far better than I.

Josh Giles

yup, deffo no to the talking heads. It just isn't the type of content I am looking for. I like the feel of no cuts (I know there are some), more relaxed like sitting in on a group of mates playing games. Talking heads pulled me right out of it last week and I didn't finish the video, it was just too distracting.

Josh Giles

Uncut means uncut, zero interruptions, so zero talking head segments. Like paying to remove ads on streaming platforms, I'd be bummed if I couldn't pay to remove the talking heads from these videos.

Joshua Wilding

My ideal preference would be no talking heads for the uncut Patreon videos, but yes talking heads for the public YouTube videos. Hopefully that would not be too great a burden for beloved Editor James!

Phil Watkins

i'd rather without talking heads, since they are already in the public version so they are not completely gone.

Christopher Stacey

not the biggest fan of the talking heads on the uncut, I personally like the game unbroken in the edit

Kieran Lamb

I love the option of having the talking heads!! It's easy to lose track of what's going on and they give a little reminder. Though if it's a lot of extra work I'm okay without too (gives me a reason to watch the edited video a few months on)

John Willcox-Beney

exaclty my line of thinking - i prefer the talking heads but i will happily take the uncuts without them as well!

vitality!

I like the talking heads - but if they mean a lot of extra editing (I think that was said before? But I have no idea of the technical details) then I don’t want someone to have to do substantially more work just for that! I’ll carry on subscribing for the uncut episodes either way.

roro

I'm all for talking heads as it's more content - it's uncut BCG after all, which is to say it's the definitive, longer version of every video

Matthew C

That would lose the context in which they were said, whilst I would be happy with that idea others would not like that as the option (though I am feeling less charitable to them at the moment)

Hannah Winter

Definitely talking heads

J.D. Jackson

Don't think I could ever play this game as I'd always want to be French... or Dutch.

Philip Joyce

no talking heads

Piece of Trash

I prefer it without the talking heads because they interrupt the flow. But I also enjoy them. Maybe tack them on at the end?

Kat

How many castmembers were harmed by Teri in the making of this video?

Drjos

Prefer the talking heads!

Nattie

I love the talking heads. Would it be easier if the talking heads were all pinned at the end, like a lil special retrospective?

Dwain Brow

With talking heads

Lee Dellbridge

I feel like I'm going to on loosing side, but I definitely prefer no talking heads.

Leigh Phillips

The talking head threw me off so much in the last uncut. I didn't mind it but I was super used to no talking heads

Samuel Wood

I appreciate democracy but I'd rather Dominic Stalin decide for us. As we know he's always right.

Alan Wilkinson

Talking heads

Brian

Talking heads!

Jake Mears

Talking heads is always best

Scott Urquhart

Awesome I would love if the no talking heads option is voted on because they are available on the normal version and hope people will vote that way, but I know others like them and should vote for the thing they want to. I'll put my pitch for no talking heads 1) The talking heads are accessible on the cut version if you want them 2) Talking heads are artificial and recorded after the fact, and there is pretending that things are going there way because they already know the result will go the other which feels contrived. 3) They are cuts, and make it feel less like a bunch of friends playing board games and into a more TV like show 4) People who don't like them will no longer have an option to avoid them. Previously someone said 'You just fast forward through them' because nothing is more enjoyable of sitting back on the couch, putting on a video and having to stop every 5 minutes to skip something /s 5) They require more editing for James then not having them in, which is the reason they weren't in it originally. 6) Talking Heads can be spoilers for Hidden Traitor games.

Hannah Winter

Yes for talking heads

Alan McCahon

Yes, talking heads, finally the best of both worlds!

Raoul Henderson

Yes for Talking heads!
