FOA - Winter Joke (take 2)

The original one did not pass the editorial board for publishing on Comics Kingdom, which was obvious in hindsight but still bummed me out. Nonetheless, I rewrote it to be less explicit. The original one will be posted on the archive site eventually, but let CK have this one and hopefully making jokes about religion won't be seen as a no-no either.

I've tried to remain PG-13 at most with the strip for CK reasons, save for a little cursing here and there, but sometimes I wonder if they really want that at all from me, given what one can reasonably get away with in a PG-13 setting, or even TV-14 rated setting these days. Starting to wonder what there is to get out of this relationship with a bigger company, rather than a paid commenter telling me I screwed up. As much as I feel annoyed by all this, it's probably better to keep with it. Probably.

Hey I’m glad you’re allowed to post the originals here. What benefits are they giving other than money? Do they promote or print your books?

That's something I wish CK would do as well! I want webcomics to change, cus it feels like such a crap-shoot these days for new and upcoming cartoonists. Which is why I thought CK could be part of that change and maybe I could help push that forward. A mature section would be a smart idea! Easy to implement? I'm not sure, but it'd be something to try. So, while I am growing impatient, I hope maybe something could come from it. Thank you for responding back, and be well.

Thanks for the response KC. You are not being condescending at all. I was not sober when I posted that and meant no offense, just dark sarcasm. I think using Nazi terminology in jest is fine, as a way of remembering history’s lessons. But you are right, it was too harsh in this case as we do live in a free world and you can publish your work in multiple sources. Now that I think of it, it may actually be good for an artist to go back and rethink a comic as a creative exercise. But I imagine it’s frustrating to have to chew over a silly joke like this. I guess that’s what made it feel like censorship to me. FOA has no appeal to children in the first place, so CK should just mark the comic as mature and let you post whatever you want, imho. Anyway, you’re doing amazing, please don’t overthink it and have a great night!

If nothing else, then this is a good way to plug your Patreon "Come see the forbidden cum joke that Comics Kingdom did not want you to see!!!"

Seems like a frustrating thing to have to do. I found this version funny, which isn’t surprising since I think you’re able to make good art even when restricted. However, having to change the excellent jizz joke because of your comic publisher(?) sucks. In my experience, jobs are always limiting one’s creativity in some capacity. I hope you’re able to find clarity on how you want to move forward with this CK gig. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and edited comics with us.

and i just want to be clear I don't mean to sound condescending to you at all. it's a mix of a lot of thoughts and emotions that are hard for me to fully explain, but it's not just censorship. To be frank, I just really liked the original cum joke lol

And I am thinking about it. A lot. My last 24 hours was kind of brooding over this change and feeling like a dope about it and a little angry. But that's part of the job too. And now I did the thing and am over it. I sense your passion, but it's not the end of all things nice and good. It's adjusting to what's already there. I posted things all the time on my site and will still be doing so. This is a new and different endeavor I am endeavoring on and if I decide to not like it anymore, I can stop. And I am wondering, out loud, if I still like it. That's up in the air. I hope you understand.

KC Green

I think using nazi terminology is way too much in this case. Even calling it censorship. They are asking me to change the joke, not censoring it. There's a difference. They could just not run it if I decided to not change it. But the job calls for a comic and I like doing the job overall. So, I made the decision myself to change it. The original, like I said, will be posted on funnyonlineanimals.com when the time comes to add it to the archive. It's not lost.

It may be better not to keep with it. Remember when you had your own website where you could post whatever you liked without a Reichsleiter telling you what to do? That was pretty cool. It probably didn’t pay as much. I don’t know. I do love your work, and I hate censorship with a passion. So just… think about it.

Arthur

It actually got BETTER! :-)
