Author's Choice: Take Charge, Lay Back, Etc.

Hi Everyone!

The exploration of this new variable sparked more interest than I anticipated, possibly due to my spectacular emoji usage, but that's great. Let's dive into it. 👀

Okay, so the name of the variable is…

Oh my, your replies always have me doing a giddy lil wiggle of happiness 🥰 Ugh. That eerie kind of otherness, the acceptance that came over J at the end. Actually so uncomfortable- in a way that's reflective of good writing, haha! Oh yes. I love this with MC and R; you don't have to be the pillar all the time, put down the mask, stop throwing yourself headlong into things for a moment. Be yourself without pretense, as there are no judgements or expectations here. Let me be your strength, your shield /and/ sword. I want to challenge you to help you grow. It seems much easier now that there appears to be more time for R to become comfortable with this, hmm? Being taken from J at that point was pretty capital-T Traumatic for my MC (nailed home in such a fun way when finding out about J's missing letters, ugh my heart). J was always a safe space during childhood, and given the recognisable familiarity on returning to Fernweh, my MC kind of automatically gravitates to J under the impression of that being the case now as well- not that J has done anything to dissuade this belief. Also has the fun side effect of igniting those intermingling protective and encouraging feelings. You really think of everything, hey? I'm loving the idea of R being like "what in the Cinnamon Toast fuck is going on here?" when seeing MC defer to J over things that R has to instead convince them about 😂

Oh, this is epic to hear! Thank you. 🥰 I must admit that I'm curious about the dynamics between your MCs and the characters as well; I think Aizhan in particular is in for an intriguing ride with Mal. 👀 It does take more time with the writing/coding, so it's my hope that readers enjoy the variable and its ripple effects. It should make Fernweh feel more dynamic, if not responsive, to your characters. 🌲

Oh, you and J (or even your MC and J) tag-teaming to uncover Fernweh’s secrets will be interesting. I do think some insights will elude our dutiful Detective since they are at times a little too close to the case itself. Fernweh is J’s home; their Chapter 13 end line is very distinctive. We will have to see. 👀 That dynamic sounds god tier, ngl. I support it, and I’m now even more keen on when you read JR’s writing for this month. It hints at something on the JR route with R and J—how R can be of a similar mind to your MC with trying to encourage J, although their motives are as mutable as their mood. I do like how your MC is willing to be grounding for R, possibly even to show them they can relinquish control once there is a level of trust between them. You have a strong read on the Verner heir along with how that title did shape how R sometimes views themself relative to the world. A challenge to that expectation that stems from care for R is something they would allow. (Your MC is seeing them rather than their last name or how R typically carries themself, an elegant mask at times.) Let’s see if your MC gives them a choice, hmm? But it’s possible! You’ll both have to work for it—the consideration aspect is key. 🖤 J could use every single ounce of that support! I’m soft over reading how your MC views being taken away from them rather than Fernweh. There is a tentativeness to J that will be brought up in the series; however, I think the fact the MC is so open, so trusting, so deferring will catch J’s attention. The latter one in particular because it isn’t due to J’s role or the respect most townsfolk cede to them as the Detective. It’s because your MC might feel /safe/ with them. Oh how I’m tempted to get into more, but that’s a big deal for J. Back to JR since I want to reassure you about something! So, your MC will be a part of the trio; acting more dominant with R and more submissive with J is possible. You might think it would ‘wash’ or ‘equalize’ your stat; however, I will be accounting for the differences.I use hidden variables too for events and sometimes even separate trackers which means it’s entirely possible for R to do a double-take at witnessing how your MC behaves with J versus them, hehe. There can be some fun exchanges.💚💐

Yes!!! This is so awesome. I can't wait to see this dynamic play out between Naia and Reese. And Aizhan and Mal, too, for that matter. You have no idea how much I love you putting this in the game. It's something I've wanted for a long time, in a lot of games. You rock! 𓆩🖤𓆪

Yo, I'll vibe with J and try to find out all the secrets! They're probably much better at it though, so maybe I'll leave it to J and my MC 😂 Also, as an aside, imagine doing a JR playthrough and wanting to be assertive/dominant/challenging with R and deferring/submissive/supporting with J hahaha couldn't be me *sweats* 🙃 I think it's at least partly bucking the expected dynamic, but also trying to encourage the best out of both of them. R is used to taking the lead, being right, and for the most part, not being questioned, which also lends itself to being more confident, but also more reckless ('no one questions me, so why would I question me?'). My MC sees being a counterbalance to that... not thinking, per se, but maybe way of operating, almost by habit?- as an important role, where necessary. Kind of like being a grounding presence. As for J, well. I'm all in on J being MC's dearest childhood best friend, first crush, and first kiss, before being taken from Fernweh (but mostly J!). So there are definitely a lot of very old and deep emotions driving this support. In a lot of ways, J hasn't changed from how MC remembers them. They want to be the person J can lean on for support, trust with their thoughts, and to encourage J to be more confident in themself. Aaah, this kinda just got away from me and ended up being an examination of relationship dynamics 🥲

Haha, I do tend to overthink; I hope my 'power' can be used for good, or at least the good of TFS. 😉🌲 I'm glad you're hyped. I love that your Mal-mancer is occupying your mind; I can't wait for them to get more time with the most enigmatic walking stop sign. 🛑 (Mal's presence is /different/ this time around, if you seek them out and showed some trust last book. It's a change of pace I'm eager for you all to experience in the early chapters of Book Two.) Same, I think the nuances this variable can introduce into a reader's game will be so intriguing, little details that add a more tailored experience. :D

Aelsa Trevelyan

Yes, there is a lot in store for you in Book Two! 🥰💚

Aelsa Trevelyan

The fact that you would want to test /everything/ and dive deeper into Fernweh's tangled roots/secrets has me like: 🥺🥰💚. All of the details I layer in with foreshadowing and hints can be uncovered (although some take on new meanings as we move forward), and I believe you're just the Returning Visitor for it. 🔎 (Move over J.) Thank you for your encouragement along with the sweet shout out--you deserve one too for taking the time get lost in town. Also, you're right about Book Two! 😌 While I do let each chapter take its own organic form with me typing it all out (so no min/max; the story's essence rules all), I can say that some of the individual RO branches are longer than a few of Book One's chapters. I didn't expect that, but I'm excited about it! The Fernweh beloveds have so much to show you. 👀

Aelsa Trevelyan

Not me imagining Sparrow and R both plopping down on either side of J to give them two perfectly timed, impulsive cheek kisses. 🥰 (The Detective would be reduced to mush, ahem.) It's so great to know that this new variable and its related dynamics have got you excitedly thinking about what's to come for Sparrow!

Aelsa Trevelyan

Well, looks like Aelsa thought of everything! Can't wait to play around with these dynamics for my MC's. I'm having lots of thoughts regarding my Mal-mancer right now... Love how these variables will have an effect on even seemingly small things like the opening of a car door. ;D

Sadie

Omg 😳 the possibilities!! 💙

Vegvis

Good grief am I excited for all the variables. It's a good thing you're implementing the replayable chapters feature, because I'm gonna be going back and testing /everything/. I thought my playthrough for book 1 took ages, what with agonising over all the details. I can already tell book 2 will be longer. Shout out to you, Aelsa, for being a fantastic enabler of my need to know everything 😌💕

musica

OH WOW now you got me excited and thinking! Can't wait to explore this and how it fits within Sparrow since i haven't thought much about that! Expect for impulsive kisses which would lean more towards the dominant side!
