Extended Progress Update: June 9 2023
Added 2023-06-09 12:30:34 +0000 UTCHi Returning Visitors,
Key highlights of this update and reminders:
- My typical gentle nudge to remember to add my email address can be found here.
- The results of the Dye, Dye, Dye poll are in. The winner is: Dusky Lavender! π
- A quite literal game-changer for Book One, Book Two, and TFS as a whole. Don't worry, it's nothing bad. I'm simply being dramatic since it's a cool feature. π
- Working on RO branches will resume very shortly, possibly after this post is published.
- Book Two Snippet: The real question is what could you have stopped?
I almost said βhelloβ to you all again here before catching myself while writing this, haha. XD
It's been a long week, but I type this with a mixture of pride and excitement about a new feature that should be making its way into TFS sooner rather than later. I spent hours thinking about how to make an idea executable within the coding limitations; honestly, I spent more time pondering it before I actually buckled in to code for many hours. Initial tests are very positive!
The Fernweh Saga series should be receiving a new checkpoint system.
While I could simply begin implementing it within Book Two, I also took the time and added it to Book One to make your overall time in Fernweh more enjoyable. π₯° (The update to Book One isn't public yet! I have to send the files to the company, and then it modifies the game across the various platforms. I will announce when the update is available for download.)
This checkpoint system is one that will allow you to return to the start of a chapter to then replay it chapter-by-chapter. So, let's say you decided to bring the flare gun to the spriggan fight and were aggressive; maybe you want to load the Chapter 11 checkpoint and see what happens with the other items/choices. It can also be great if you were torn between two choice options. For instance, in Chapter 9 being vulnerable with R outside of Turn the Page (seriously, that's a hidden gem of a choice with how they react) or being considerate about their well-being! I have coded it so these checkpoints can be turned off to avoid breaking immersion while in town; you toggle them off in the stats screen. I think first time Returning Visitors should likely play with them off, but you all have been to Fernweh numerous times.
(You're still there now. ππ²)
Essentially, this opens up more of the town to you all, inviting you to explore The Fernweh Saga.
So, that is what I've primarily been intensely working on for the last week; however, I plan to dive back into the branches very soon. Working on the coding has made me miss the writing. You all know how I like to obsess over one thing at a time. π That single-minded focus will now be turned on B. Warrick since their section is calling to meβangst, broken glass, waffles (no, not the dog) gone cold, and the MC reaching out. There will be some twists on their route.
[Spoilers Ahead!]
Here's an excerpt from Book Two:
Reese
It's a final warning, one last chance to stopβfor you to do something that makes him stop.
Neither of you heed it.
Reese's composure slips, his control along with it, when he has you nearby.
Ruby
It's a final warning, one last chance to stopβfor you to do something that makes her stop.
Neither of you heed it.
Ruby's composure slips, her control along with it, when she has you nearby.
π
Thank you again for all of your support. I hope you're looking forward to a restful weekend. π

π€©ππ Well, you and your MCs are a part of mine, so giving you all more ways to better explore Fernweh brings me a lot of joy. I recall how you're curious about some of the A jealousy/crush scenes; this checkpoint system will make it easier to explore those interactions. :D Thank you!

2023-06-10 22:55:44 +0000 UTCYou're welcome! π Anything to make the story more enjoyable for my readers. Oof, you're right. π COG only structures it so there's /eventually/ a hard save at the end, assuming they have the next book submitted to them and even then they can take a while to implement it. I hope that this checkpoint system circumvents that limitation on my readers who want to continue exploring Fernweh until it's time to lock-in those hard saves for Book Two. I also can't understate how much /fun/ the checkpoint system will be in Book Two due to variation. :D

2023-06-10 11:53:25 +0000 UTCI love your excitement for this, especially knowing that you/your MC is the cause of R's slip in control. π€π (Your power? Unmatched.)

2023-06-10 11:48:01 +0000 UTCIt's my pleasure. π₯° I hope you enjoy exploring Fernweh that much more once it's included in the series! It's not a common feature in these types of games, so it took me some time to figure out the coding! I believe it will make the playing experience more fun for my readers. π
