It's finally here. A podcast about visual design in Super Mario World, 3 hours and 17 minutes long, with a 40,173 word script. According to a commonly accepted definition of the length of short stories, novellas and novels set by the Science Fiction Writers of America organization, a novel is a work over 40,000 words in length, meaning that this podcast's script is technically novel-sized.
I apologize for the delay in putting out this issue - I first planned it to be 1.5 hours in length, then 2 hours, but every time I continued writing, I discovered more that needed to be said about the game. In the finished version of the podcast, I go through every single level of Super Mario World and offer both facts and opinions on it.
Speaking of facts and opinions, the episode begins with a half-hour long philosophical discussion of those concepts. If you are interested only in Super Mario World content, please feel free to skip to 29 minutes and 40 seconds, where I say "Let us begin" (middle of Page 9 in the script).
I have been working on the other two outstanding episodes: Episode 3, which concerns itself with Mario and Zelda cross-references, and Episode 4, which will remain a surprise for now, in the background during the last month, so they will be finished and published soon, within the next two weeks.
Unfortunately, my computer cannot currently handle creating a video file of the podcast to upload to YouTube for performance reasons. I have contacted an associate who will assist me in creating the video version and uploading it; when this is completed, I will update this post, which will send you a notification. The next two podcasts will be shorter and so I will be able to offer all versions at the moment of publishing.
Thank you all so much for your support. I have long dreamed of being able to publish lengthy analyses of Mario games, and I hope that you will get some value out of the information and the thoughts I provide on the game if you choose to listen to the recording or read the script. The last few months of Patreon operation have been rough as I need to balance the workload of my blogs, the exclusive Patreon content and my job, but I am hopeful that as I create more, I will be able to streamline the process and get back on schedule with all reward tiers.
Thank you very much for listening.
