November Waypoints

I wanted the scariest possible Halloween costume this year, so I'm dressing up as a cell phone with 2% battery charge.

_____

As the weather starts turning crisp it's a great excuse to come inside and play some EverQuest II: level up alts, finish quest lines, see all the zones, and get everything else done before the Renewal of Ro expansion gets published in December!

Otherworldly Resolutions

We're still working through a very long October to-do list, since most of my DarqUI time this month was taken up with the ambitious L and XL enlargements of the Window Manager which is looking very good. Almost all of the pages have been reworked, so you'll see the XL size in a few days, after a bit more testing.

You've already got access to the L (2K) size, and here's a work-in-progress screenshot that shows a sample of the XL (4K) size:

Shadowy Spells

There was a discussion in the Darq Side Discord a few days ago that merits some extra attention. When using Import/Export or the Duplicate feature in the utility to copy Group window settings, by default all settings including spells and cures get copied over to other character(s).

It makes sense to look at adding an option in the utility when copying group window settings to include or exclude spells and cures. It would be nice to copy everything else like your custom group window layout to other characters without also picking up class-specific settings.

Mysterious Windows

The "Locate window" feature in Window Settings gets used quite a bit, but one class of windows that's missing in the list is Chat. The reason, technically, is that Chat windows are all actually "clones" from a master chat window template, so it's not as easy to call up an individual chat window, or tab, as it is with unique windows like the Quest Journal or Threat window, for example.

I have one character that keeps his chat windows up along the top edge of the game window, and they have a bad habit of disappearing off-screen, especially if I do a /loadui. Restarting the game always puts everything back into place, but I'd much rather have a Locate window choice for Chat windows. If this can be done, you'll see it in your game during November.

Zombie Settings

With the Beta of RoR that's going on right now, member chief turned up an issue with the Beta Tools utility feature. When you import your live DarqUI settings to Beta, certain components (the ones that don't have settings for specific characters) don't get copied over. Examples: Guild Bank, Screen Grid, etc. A fix is incoming with the next utility.

Spooky CDNs

In yet another bewildering pivot, one of our content networks changed back to a previous way of doing things earlier this month, causing update checks to fail for about one day. Since then, you've probably noticed a couple of unusual lines in the utility when you check for updates. There's nothing wrong, the utility is simply cycling through multiple ways to get to the file list.

While the next utility version is under the knife we'll be adding code to check for even more variations in delivery style, so you should no longer get strange messages when a network engineer hits the wrong key.

Monster Email Providers

This is a good spot to mention that apparently Outlook and Gmail will randomly decide that emails from me or from the Darq Side are spam or junk mail (!!!) What's worse, emails from you to me will sometimes get similarly categorized. So I've learned to check my junk mail folder every day. The common denominator is Patreon, but I haven't yet figured out why the major mail providers would consider such emails to be spam.

Just a reminder, please check your spam/junk folders from time to time for messages from my Hotmail darqwood address, or from Patreon.

Apparition of Appreciation

DarqUI uses lots of tricks to provide you with an expansive feature set that works for every playstyle, but it's my treat to put it all together for you. It's your membership that makes it possible to devote more time for building and experimenting with your ideas -- ideas that often end up in many game windows for players around the world. To all of our Darq Side members -- new, returning and long-time supporters, Thank you!
