Insider Secrets: Custom UI Folder

As with just about any complex application, the DarqUI utility and notifier app have their share of hidden tools and functions. In every case, the concealed bits of code are there as diagnostics, or to improve the experience for users with specific requirements. You most likely will never need to use this invisible setting, but I thought you might get a kick out of seeing it.

There have been players in the past who have requested that DarqUI be installed into another custom UI folder, such as EQ2MAP. Even though we know DarqUI and EQ2MAP can be installed together using the utility, for some players who already had EQ2MAP installed it seemed less daunting to add DarqUI to what they knew was already working. Earlier in the summer I coached a player through this same scenario, so it's still getting used.

If you start up DarqUI from scratch, you get the familiar setup dialog, and the app presents your EverQuest II location as the default, along with DarqUI_v3 as seemingly the only choice for a folder.  V3's setup was intentionally designed to be obtuse here, since long ago new users were able to manipulate the entire location string, folder name and all, and it was generating way more support requests than necessary.

For players who truly wish to install DarqUI into a non-standard location, you can hold down the Shift key on the keyboard and click the word DarqUI_v3 in the window.

A new dialog box will appear where you can type the destination folder name, and setup will take it from there.
