Forgot to share the breakdown of this piece!
This was a quick icon commission done for Allosaurex on Twitter! I had a rejected sketch wip from a previous commission and didn't want it to go to waste, so I offered it up on Twitter! Turns out they really wanted it, and with that, I was drawing a maned wolf!
So here's the progress breakdown of it! I had a lot of fun drawing this one <3

Reworked sketch. Just tweaked it a bit from the original (seen on this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/dahmuttdog-icon-1952341 ) to make him look more like a maned wolf! And removed the hat too!

Linework, my fav part of the progress for sure!

Colour!

Added in a tropical background overlay! Basically found the texture online and set the layer setting to 'linear dodge (add)' over top of the green BG in the previous step! I like how funky it looks :3 I usually don't have a go to setting for BG overlays, I kinda just scroll through all the settings and pick whats looks/works best! All depends on the texture I'm using and the look I'm trying to go for.

Shadows! I don't think I've mentioned this before, so I will now! I usually do the shadows and highlights in a two step process. I start with lighter soft shadows, then I make a new layer (both layers are set on multiply) and I do slightly darker shadows, some areas not as soft to give the emphasis of the fur/clothing/etc being closer to the surface. Honestly I feel like I never know wheat I'm doing when it comes to shading/highlights but now that I explain it like this...I guess I do have SOME knowledge of how they work, lmao xD

Highlights! I love this stage cause oh man, do they make the character pop!

And the finished product! I put a textured overlay overtop of everything just to tie it all together. Like wrapping a perfect present! It's the ribbon on top for me, haha!
