My dog got mauled by a pitbull
Added 2018-10-13 07:24:08 +0000 UTCThursday morning around 4:00AM My Malamute Kaiya got attacked by a pit bull. The pitbull got a hold her by the back of the neck right behind her left ear. Thank goodness she had all that fur or her injuries would have been a lot more serious. Non of her muscle tissue got damaged or punctured but she did get two pretty long tears in her skin and a couple small ones that I had to perform some quick surgery stitching it some Krazy glue and closed it up the best I could until we could get her some help.
I'm happy to report that she's doing pretty well, its barely been 48 hours since the incident and shes barely acting like anything happened. In fact Id say shes handled the whole situation a lot better then I have, once I got her wound sealed up and the adrenaline started to wear off I couldn't stop worrying and thinking about the worst possible outcomes.
Shes not completely out of the woods yet, even though no real major damage happened the risk of infection is really high and unfortunately malamutes don't do well on antibiotics so they gave me these wimpy versions of amoxicillin to give her every 8 hours. but all in all it looks like she's going to be fine.
God I'm exhausted.

Thanks for the advice. Washing her wounds has been the hardest part, she doesn't act like anythings wrong until the moment we try to clean her wounds and then she freaks out and fights us and we have to use a lot of force to hold her down to help her. Its been extremely stressful.

Infection is a huge risk, so keeping the area clean and inspecting it regularly for inflammation are good precautionary steps. The fact that she's calm and not acting like anything's wrong is a very positive thing.
