Its been hard to stay creatively motivated lately. As mentioned before, I've had a hit to my health that's just left me kind of drifting along on the tattered rags of creativity for the last few weeks now.
I wanted to do some 'dumb idea' sketches to keep in some semblance of practice. The idea isn't to do a highly detailed, finished sketch, but to just do something raw to keep the pen moving.
I always get a 'hold my beer' moment when I see some artists post sketches that look damn near stunning and pristine. I tend to be really rough in comparison. My starting sketches are incredibly scratchy, and at times hard to read to any sane person, but I find that I don't want to go back and just overly detail and erase and tweak and cut and move and paste when I just go from start to finish.
There are a lot of mistakes, yes, but its not a study of anatomy or light or detail, its just getting an idea down on the digital sheet. And ideas have been ephemeral butterflies lately, so I'm just going with whatever thing pops into my head. I never remember character names, have forgotten at least a dozen others now, but sometimes an anonymous dragon knight has to fight a giant-ass skeleton, and that's all there is to it.
