Records of Sorrow - Sketch

The great halls and churches held records of Vicorria's grandest achievements, from the incense soaked heralds of the Bannered Conquest, to the Wax halls of the arcane ley-lines that presaged the aberration-laced time of madness.

Held within the black slabbed walls that were foretold to stand for generations, the ancient grew more powerful, drew more to them until they stood upon a precipice of godhood.

Those walls did indeed stand for generations.

But the generations themselves grew complacent, bored, the power corrupting allowing for abuses varied and dark, until that twilight finally took those who were left.

Soon, the self-styled gods went unremembered, un-worshiped, and they too faded into that inky abyss with their subjects.

Yes, the great halls and churches held records of the god's grand achievements, but the corpses within bore the heavy weighted record of their sorrow.  nestled within cold, black confines of stones once set in place to protect them from the outside monstrosities, now cradling them within its dead heart, a protective howling mother made of towering walls and deep dens.

At odd times I get the urge to draw old school styled exploration images of 'adventurers' wandering into the dark places that are best left undisturbed.  I'm trying for more simplified styles now and then as well, and this allowed for it.

With the time of year growing towards the pumpkin strewn glee that is Halloween, its likely a few more of these 'spook' styled images will stumble their way onto Patreon.

I've added a tweaked and slightly refined version of the last sketch as well.  Cleaned up and given a bit more definition, it didn't warrant it's own post, so I've tacked it on as a rider to this one.

I did want to take a moment to thank all of you.  For your patience, for your patronage, and most of all for the encouragement.  I don't say it often enough, but I am eternally grateful to each of you.  I've had a bunch of life-altering things go on in the last short while, and my work-load has become dense, but its nice to be able to sit and lose myself in some little place in my head-world, even if they're spooky.  Its therapy through lines, I guess.

I hope you all have a good rest of the month.  I'm a bit jaw-dropped that its already heading into September.  It honestly feels like it was _just_ the beginning of growing season, and here we are quickly winding towards harvest.

It was a bad growing summer here though, however we did get some monster carrots.  And potatoes, so I'll take that as compensation for the absurd amount of rain.

Skeletons creak when they walk. The sound is unmistakable. This one hears them in her sleep now. They haunt our dreams and our night-mares. Such is the life of a dungeon crawler.
