Lorrnath Race - Preview

I managed to learn enough about a publishing program to put together a preview of a race page like that found in the D&D 5e Player's Handbook.  I've always liked the mix of 'tome' and 'clean enough to read' that they use.  Plus the little tidbit of showing where a race might live as well as what they look like.

The art isn't quite up to their level, but it shows off a bit of what the Lorrnath page might look like if in a book like that.

I'm still working on finishing off the templates for the complete writeup.  I'll be doing this for a bunch of races along the line just for kicks, and will share all the PDF's here as well.

I'll also be posting the final coloured image of Lucotorix (who I used as the race template image) in the next day or so.

I will also be announcing the next person in line for a sketch on the 20th!

I never had a chance to get into D&D type games since I jumped right into computer gaming (I currently reside in Skyrim as a Khajiit) so for now I'm just going to sit back and learn and enjoy what you present to us. ;-)

I used to run games for a while, and keep up with the books. This time around I wanted to try to mimic the style they used int he latest edition, which was a pretty fantastic learning experience. :)

This was actually just my attempts at creating a page akin to the Player's Handbook (5e), and learning PagePlus. I've actually never used any kind of publisher software and figured it was a good time to try and make an 'official' looking page just for kicks, and to send along to a friend who plays in 5e and asked for race write ups. The Lorrnath featured was simply one of the few ones I had drawn that was wearing pants :) I'll still be posting a colour 'race comparison' in a similar style that features both genders in clothing (and perhaps a few in light travelling armor depending on the race). Its one thing I really don't like about the 5e books that Pathfinder and a few other systems did better: An actual side by side comparison of the various common races. So that's definitely on the agenda. I have the pencils for the males done, and just need to sketch out the female of each race as well. I can do a post of a white-background, non textured write up as well when I post the final PDF of this, that's no worry at all! As much as I wasn't a fan of the 4th edition of the game, they did an amazing job with the readability of their books and modules, often opting for no texture on backgrounds and simple panels of artwork. I can personally read (though my eyes are starting to struggle these days too) the 5e books, and like the 'old paper tome' style, I can absolutely understand that readability is something others look for, so I'm happy to provide that as well!

I like the layout and would pay for a finished copy (especially if I could work the races into a game), but I also agree with the comments above: add more genders, armor, clothing options, etc. I don't have eyesight problems so the texture behind the text is fine for me, but I can live without it. Maybe as a border? I like the font you used for the headings too. Feels Gothic and right. Good descriptions. I also agree with you on having a setting and an example of where they live in the background. Really helps fill out the idea.

If I might: I would suggest less armor for a race page, and include a female. I like the layout. Being formerly half blind and still suffering astigmatism I still do not like texture behind the text. Text has one job, to convey the meaning you have written into it. Anything that muddies that or makes it hard to read is not the friend of the text.

This is fantastic. I'm fairly unfamiliar with the D&D pages (unless they're formatted similar to the Star Wars RPG), but I could really see a tome for everything Felwroth. :>
