Pet chairs & plans for the future

The good news: I have uploaded two (!) YouTube videos since the last time I posted on Patreon. In case you haven't watched them, here's a bed version of Pimp My Ride and a video where I build a pet compatible office chair for Scraps. It has a small staircase and an extra broad seat so she can lie next to me whenever she wants to.

YouTube projects are kind of like one-night-stands: you spend a bunch of time screwing it and then you move on. But some projects really stick with you, and I did not feel ready to move on from this chair. I love it. It's cute, it's functional, Scraps loves it and it has a lot of room for improvement.
So I was stoked when a bunch of people asked if I was going to start selling them, because that means I might be able to turn it into a product and that means that my team and I will be able to spend SO MUCH TIME PERFECTING THIS THING. I can't wait to make another rev. Looking at you, lumbar support.

This chair actually became my most retweeted project of all time, which I was totally caught off guard by. Even old-school rapper Killer Mike retweeted it calling me a genius, which is a level of street cred I never thought I'd achieve. At least not by building a dog chair.
We're scheduled to launch the YETCH store in a couple of months and I think it will be the start of a new phase of my career. I finally hired a project manager for my product company (welcome Joshua!) and he's been absolutely killing it getting everything organized.

My dream is to run an innovation house creating unique solutions to every day problems. I want to film a TV show a few months every year, and the rest of the time I'm in the workshop, prototyping and sketching with a team of engineers and saying yay or nay to factory samples. I'm also wearing very cool glasses in this vision. I'm willing to compromise on that part.
Almost forgot, it's April 1st! No April Fools' from me this year. I'm just going to be in my shop, working on a menstruation machine.
XOXO
Simone
PS. I didn't win the space competition. I've been really sad about it, but also very aware that if my main complaint in life is "didn't get a free trip to space" it's seemingly a pretty good life.

If anybody is looking for something more CAD than Illustrator, but less of a commitment than Fusion 360, take a look at this browser-based 2D design tool that I'm working on with 3 folks... https://cuttle.xyz ... email me at forrest at that domain for an invite. 😉

2021-04-16 07:06:29 +0000 UTCOne of my dreams is to appear in a youtube rewind!
2021-04-11 22:05:13 +0000 UTCYou’re already out of this world. 🙂

2021-04-04 10:44:52 +0000 UTCHave you considered applying to be a reserve astronaut with European Space Agency? They've opened applications and I think you meet most of the requirements asside from the master's degree. Also I like that they've opened applications to people with disabilities, I'm not personally inclined and I'm not an EU citizen but I like that space is becoming more accessible.

2021-04-03 14:16:02 +0000 UTCWant! Our dog wants to share our chairs while we are WFH. A bit more ergonomic for the human side and we’d have new office chairs ;)

2021-04-02 18:24:16 +0000 UTCYeah, was the notches too narrow or too few

2021-04-02 16:45:07 +0000 UTCNow that's an idea that might sell, I'm thinking magnetized bit holders of acrylic or brass or coloured aluminium with etched/sunken head icons on the front for each bit.

2021-04-02 16:39:20 +0000 UTCHow about a simpler version for sitting beside the bed to help little and older pets get up on a tall bed? Maybe narrower with just the stairs and a little sleeping nook for the critters. I'd buy that!

2021-04-02 15:16:58 +0000 UTCLet's start our own space program! I left you a message on Patreon to see if you had time to be my "Astronaut Consultant" - a video I am working on for my channel (Venture City) :D

2021-04-02 13:41:22 +0000 UTCYeeetch queen!

2021-04-02 08:23:23 +0000 UTCOn the bright side, you didn't have to print a shirt with a bajillion names in .05 point font. Though, at the size, I would've hoped for Comic Sans just for the joke. The chair looks damn good and the video was even better. 👍🏼

2021-04-02 08:07:51 +0000 UTCI'm sure you're going to have a lot of success with the chair! If I know anything about Swedes, it's that you have a knack for making furniture.

2021-04-02 02:03:02 +0000 UTCGlad you went with Yetch as the brand. Did you move away from the paintbrush hand as a symbol? Please.

2021-04-02 01:10:50 +0000 UTCYou had me at very cool glasses.

2021-04-01 23:31:18 +0000 UTCI loved the video! Good for you and Scraps! I could see this work for my cat too.

2021-04-01 22:15:01 +0000 UTCFYI, during the "let's fuck up the prototype" montage, I was convinced the necklace was a stylish magnetic drill bit storage device for easy access. And now I want one.

2021-04-01 21:52:31 +0000 UTCSounds like an excellent vision to work towards! And I think you should definitely have a set of excellent and very cool safety glasses. No reason to have just boring ones.

2021-04-01 20:05:19 +0000 UTCLove love love it! How about casters and some height adjustment for the seat? Maybe that’s getting too involved... and w00t! The YETCH store!
Jeff
2021-04-01 20:02:30 +0000 UTChow about a built-in dog bed underneath your laptop EMF blocker. Sitting up is so 2019.

2021-04-01 20:01:52 +0000 UTCCongratulations on the success of the project! Congratulations on the pending launch of the Yetch store! ("Yetchworks"?) WilI your employees be called Yetchies? Sounds reasonable but I am not good at naming things either...

2021-04-01 20:00:04 +0000 UTCSimone!! I subscribed to you on Patreon to support you in all your endeavours, so don't worry if you neglect this page, I will still support you! Also, super excited about the YETCH store!

2021-04-01 19:44:54 +0000 UTCI believe it was Edison who said he had discovered thousands of ways *not* to build the light bulb. Chalk this space adventure up in the "how not to get to space" column... and keep at it. Can't wait to hear you're out amongst the stars after inventing a way to get there. :) And... I don't have dogs, but I liked the chair. :)
Bradley Mott
2021-04-01 19:42:42 +0000 UTCI've made curved parts like you did for the chair. I felt the splintering in my soul. Also felt the shrug-and-hammer-on.

2021-04-01 19:39:35 +0000 UTCIs that a.... coyote with a saddle???

2021-04-01 19:33:27 +0000 UTCIt was so much fun watching TWO new videos and I think the chair might become a bestseller! Love watching you create!

2021-04-01 19:28:54 +0000 UTCSo is "Yetch" established as the name for your product company? Would be great. I also hope that you will continue to give insights on Youtube or Patreon when your dream comes true.

2021-04-01 19:27:47 +0000 UTCSo sorry to hear about the space competition but at least you have time to develop a Scraps friendly space chair/suit to take her with you next time!
Biddy Fisher
2021-04-01 19:26:50 +0000 UTCYes, I would buy the chair (or should I say Shair? Actually...that seems more like a hair product)! Absolutely needs the ergonomics worked out, lol. Adjustable footrest height and lumbar that isn't set in place (I am short and other people are tall, yet chairs with built in lumbar shapes are in the same spot...why??) would make it worth buying so I can spend my 8 hours at a PC next to my cat.
Noah Jay
2021-04-01 19:23:47 +0000 UTCOh, one more thought. What do you think about shop chairs on casters? My only issue with them is that if you want to be stationary....... they SUCK! How about a shop chair (with our without pet compatibility) with casters where you can lock all the casters simultaneously with a conveniently places hand crank? Thoughts?
J-Mo
2021-04-01 19:22:45 +0000 UTCI've been calling it the Companion Chair! Not a thought-through name though, just the one that stuck.

2021-04-01 19:20:56 +0000 UTCI did submit a DearMoon application...

2021-04-01 19:20:20 +0000 UTCI am excited to purchase two of these chairs from you. My husbands wants one too, but he would prefer it to still be able to have all the adjustments that his current office chair has. We've needed this chair for our cats for years! They always want to be on our laps or keyboards, but there's never any room there. I wish I had one of these before my 16-year-old cat passed. She couldn't jump up high anymore and always wanted to be next to me. This is a great invention! Please let us shower you in money for inventing it and making it for us! <3

2021-04-01 19:20:19 +0000 UTCLoved the video! Sorry you are not getting a free ride to space. That would have been awesome. There is still Dear Moon though? :)

2021-04-01 19:20:13 +0000 UTCThank you for the updates Simone. I love the genuine pride and enjoyment you get from your projects.

2021-04-01 19:18:41 +0000 UTCAlso, there had better be a store section for Commander Scraps merch!

2021-04-01 19:17:56 +0000 UTCThe chair turned out great. Totally rooting for you to make a product line out of it!

2021-04-01 19:17:54 +0000 UTCAwesome job on the chair...dog love seat?? Does it have an official name yet? Outside of chair, of course.

2021-04-01 19:17:44 +0000 UTCSorry to hear about the space trip :( Next time eh! For us folks over in the UK, getting ANYTHING from abroad is a nightmare thanks to brexit and changes to how VAT is collected - I hope *something* from the store can be shipped to us! I’d love to see pins/patches (already have the patch you sent us a few years ago) avaliable - and tees (as there are services that will print and ship the tees in the buyers location which helps a BUNCH)
Dave Treadwell
2021-04-01 19:17:28 +0000 UTCAwesome video Simone! My mom wants one for her cat. Sad to hear that you didn’t had it to space, but to be completely honest with you, I now can sleep well again after knowing that you will not get lost in space (no hard feelings Elon, you are awesome). Would have miss you so much 😊

2021-04-01 19:17:15 +0000 UTCI'm honestly just thrilled to see you living your best life. Way to go Giertz!
