My brother called me yesterday. He is one of 3, the original brother I like to call him. We don't speak too often but we're there for each other, we have a mutual respect and an unspoken bond brought together by shared childhood trauma.
He called me to say he proposed to his girlfriend. My 22 year old brother was getting married.
Holy shit.
It was in the moment it hit me, what am I doing? Like, what's my fucking plan?
Later that night I found myself in a conversation with a stranger about relationship timelines. How we're often told what to do and we just do it without question. Are relationships the same? Are we just simply following the rules layed out for us?

Social norms are rules that both guide and constrain us. Those who crave direction, their path is clearly layed out with flashing lights but for those who don't, who thrive in the unknown, unfortunately it's a little more difficult.
Following society's timeline may work for majority of the population, but for the rest of us, although we know this isn't the way we want to experience relationships, we're still met with disapproval.
Fighting the norm is fucking exhausting but so damn worth it 🤘
