The Scarlett Soldier - (part 1)

Chapter 1: The Call

The low hum of fluorescent lighting filled the room, casting a harsh glare over the solid oak desk, laden with various papers and memorabilia, marking decades of military service. At the head of the desk, General Patton held a manila folder, its contents spelling out a remarkable military career. Across from him sat the owner of that file, Captain Mike 'Rhino' Ryan, a man as physically imposing as his military record.

"Captain Mike 'Rhino' Ryan," General Patton began, his voice echoing with a distinct air of gravitas, "Born and raised amidst the lush green landscapes and rugged terrains of Arkansas, a place known for producing resilient souls. Recipient of the coveted Purple Heart, lauded with the esteemed Navy Cross, and a myriad of commendations that portray a picture of valor and courage that's hard to match."

The words hung in the air like a solemn hymn, painting a picture of a man whose life was deeply intertwined with his country's service. Rhino, a nickname bestowed by his comrades, reflected his bulldozing determination and unyielding strength, perfectly echoing his solid frame and the brawny build that filled out his uniform.

Despite the glowing record and the general's praises, Rhino sat in silent stoicism. His granite-like features were carved in a mask of focused intent, his steel-blue eyes piercing, betraying nothing of his thoughts or the mounting curiosity under his hardened exterior.

General Patton leaned back in his weathered leather chair, his fingers interlacing over his chest. The silence was punctuated only by the ticking of the military-grade clock on the wall, its hands inching towards a moment that would change Rhino's life forever. "Rhino," he finally broke the silence, "You're a damned fine soldier. One of the best we've ever had. But what I'm about to propose is... unconventional."

That got Rhino's attention. His bushy brows twitched, furrowing into a frown that etched deeper lines on his weather-beaten face. Unconventional? In his tenure, he had seen it all - covert operations, rescue missions, battles against insurmountable odds - what could possibly fall outside his purview?

“It's a deep-cover espionage mission. You're the best candidate because, well, you have no personal attachments," the general continued, his gaze steady. "No wife, no kids, parents deceased, no siblings. Your solitude, though unfortunate, is an asset in this mission. It's an unpalatable fact, Rhino, but it's the truth."

The words hit Rhino like a punch to the gut, a bitter reminder of his solitude. He had always considered his loneliness a strategic advantage, never allowing personal ties to distract him from his service. Now, it was the sole reason he was sitting across from the general, on the brink of a mission unlike any other. His response was a curt nod, urging the general to get to the point.

"We have a mole," Patton’s voice took on a graver tone, the room growing colder at the revelation, "There's classified information leaking out of our ranks. We believe it's coming from inside, from our training camps for fresh recruits. Someone's grooming these recruits for espionage."

Rhino stiffened. A traitor within their ranks was an extreme liability, a threat to national security that needed to be addressed urgently. He understood why he was here, but there was still one question lingering in his mind: why was this mission so unconventional?

"The suspect's connection seems to be predominantly with female recruits," Patton stated, carefully watching Rhino's reaction.

The air in the room turned heavy. A sinking realization began to dawn on Rhino. But it was so absurd, so unimaginable, that he had trouble wrapping his mind around it.

"You can't be serious, General," Rhino rasped, his deep voice almost a whisper. But the general's stern expression didn't waver, didn't offer the reassurance he was desperately seeking.

"Deadly serious, Ryan. We need you to go undercover. As a woman."

The world seemed to lurch beneath Rhino. He was a soldier, built like a brute force, a mammoth on the battlefield. And they wanted him to become a woman? A fresh recruit? It seemed like a bizarre, ludicrous plan.

"But why can't we send an actual woman?" Rhino asked, desperately trying to comprehend the radical strategy laid out in front of him.

"The mole has been successful in spotting our undercover agents. They seem to have a sophisticated system or a connection high up, who's alerting them about new deployments. We need someone completely new, someone they wouldn't expect," the general explained.

"We have a cutting-edge procedure ready for you. Once you accept this mission, Mike Ryan would cease to exist. You'll start a new life, as a female recruit."

The silence that followed was deafening. Rhino found himself in the eye of a storm, a whirlwind of thoughts churning his mind. This was far beyond anything he had ever anticipated. But if his country needed him to undertake this colossal change, could he refuse?

"Alright, General," Rhino's voice finally broke the silence, hoarse with trepidation and an odd sense of resolution, "Let's do it."

A nod of approval from the general followed, relief flooding his weathered features. Rhino had accepted the call, albeit obliviously, not fully aware of the magnitude of transformation this mission was about to bring about.

Chapter 2: Transformation

Under the harsh white lights of the laboratory, a veritable orchestra of machinery buzzed and whirred. Monitors flickered, displaying a bewildering array of data and graphs, while an assortment of cutting-edge apparatus loomed ominously around the room. Captain Mike Ryan, previously known for his intimidating physical presence, now felt diminutive as he sat, ensconced on the edge of a cold, stainless steel examination table. Anticipation washed over him in chilling waves, the sterile scent of antiseptic and the peculiar, almost alien, metallic tang of the sophisticated machinery offering little comfort.

In the midst of this overwhelming environment, Dr. Amelia Kendricks, a pioneering bioengineer and lead scientist on this secretive project, began to outline the unprecedented procedure. Her voice was brisk, filled with professional confidence that belied the daunting nature of the task ahead. "We'll be employing a method we've dubbed 'Advanced Biomorphological Transformation', or 'ABT'. It's a comprehensive procedure that harmoniously melds genetic engineering, hormone treatments, and nanotechnology to induce a total physical transformation. We're essentially rewriting your genetic code, adjusting your hormone balance, and utilizing microscopic nanobots to conduct the physical reconfiguration."

Dr. Kendricks launched into an in-depth breakdown of the process, her words laden with technical jargon and complex explanations. To Rhino, the whole procedure sounded like something straight out of a science fiction novel, the melding of technology and biology venturing beyond what he'd thought possible. Yet, in spite of the staggering complexity, he found himself ready to surrender to this wild frontier of science, ready to sacrifice his known identity for a cause greater than himself.

Before the day of the transformation, a respite from the looming procedure came in the form of an evening spent in the officers' lounge. There, Rhino was introduced to his handler, Captain David 'Cobalt' Coblentz, a seasoned member of Naval Intelligence. Coblentz was a stern figure, his face etched with the deep lines of a man who'd seen too much. The seriousness reflected in his icy blue eyes was a stark testament to the gravity of his role.

In the dimly lit corner of the lounge, they convened, their faces half-obscured by shadow, the secrecy of their conversation underscored by the low hum of the crowded room around them. Cobalt laid out the grimmer details of their mission, his voice dipping lower. "The suspected mole is corrupting fresh recruits, green and enthusiastic young women, using a dangerous cocktail of blackmail and brainwashing. They're funnelling out classified information, committing acts of betrayal that threaten to taint the honor of the institution we serve."

The revelation hit Rhino hard. His military service had always been a matter of personal pride, an unwavering commitment to his country. The thought of such treason within their ranks was an affront to all he held dear.

As the night wore on, it took on a surreal quality. The officers around him reveled, their raucous merriment and extravagant generosity seemed almost out of place given the seriousness of the task ahead. The young ensign, oblivious to the tension in the room, offered Rhino female companionship for the night. Rhino declined, his mind grappling with the enormity of the mission before him, leaving no room for such distractions.

Before he knew it, the dawn of the transformation day had arrived. Rhino found himself being roused from a restless sleep, escorted into the vast, labyrinthine lab. The sight of the gargantuan transformation machine was daunting. A looming behemoth of gleaming chrome and flashing lights, it was a spectacle that would have left him awestruck under different circumstances.

Lying on the cold, hard table, he felt a prick of numerous needles as the process began. His veins burned, a searing sensation of his very being altering. His flesh seemed to ebb and flow beneath his skin, his bones creaked and groaned as they shrunk and shifted. The pain was unlike anything he'd ever experienced, a relentless tide that threatened to drown him in a sea of discomfort. Yet, he clung to consciousness, gritting his teeth and willing himself to endure.

Hours seemed to stretch into a lifetime before the procedure was finally complete. Dr. Kendricks looked over at him, a glint of triumph in her eyes. "Captain Ryan, you were incredibly resilient. Most would have succumbed to the pain and slipped into unconsciousness. But you endured. Well done."

As Rhino's eyes fluttered open, he was met with his own reflection. Gone were his rugged features, replaced by a delicate face framed by a mane of fiery red curls. Large, almond-shaped green eyes, sparkling with life, sat above a small, upturned nose and full, rosy lips. Her body was curvy, a tiny waist leading to shapely hips, a stark contrast to Rhino's bulky muscularity. Her skin was fair, the soft glow of it almost luminescent in the harsh lab light. She was young, barely out of her teens, a fact that made Rhino feel strangely vulnerable.

As she absorbed the image in front of her, a whisper of a smile tugged at her lips. She was no longer Mike 'Rhino' Ryan. Instead, she was a fiery, attractive southern belle with an aura of innocence and charm about her.

"Say hello to Scarlett Summers," Dr. Kendricks announced, her voice filled with a mix of professional satisfaction and awe, breaking Rhino's reverie. She - no, she - would have to get used to that, she thought, her gaze unwavering from the reflection in the mirror. The transformation had begun.
