I'M BACK, BETCHES! BTS #58

Hello, mini family! Long time, no typy type. I've had a nice long break and I am fully energized to start cranking out that content again. If I'm being honest, the end kind of snuck up on me, but don't worry, I've already got finished videos in the pipeline for your eyeballs. A decent amount has gone on since taking my break, so let's chat about it!

I can't remember if I told you guys this, but I mentioned on the podcast wanting to do a paint night at my LGS, so I did it! It was a nice turn out and we painted until the store closed. We'll be doing it again at the same location (The Source Comic and Games) on February 9th with myself and Jon this time if you're interested in coming out! We'll be there from 3-7.

Creature caster sent along their new range of paints for me to test out! I'll likely be doing another sponsored video for them in the future. Looks like the range has expanded since last time!

Jeremy from Black Magic Craft came and visited me in Minnesota! Apparently he needed a break from the cold, so he came somewhere that was also...cold..We shot an episode of the podcast with him as a guest, and also we shot a video for his channel and my own. He made me paint something a little peculiar...

A little emaciated boy...let me know if he's familiar. For the video on my channel, we talked about the essential equipment for making terrain if you're coming from the miniature painting hobby, and we built this sick little wood elf way stone piece!

Also, while Jeremy was here, he shared with us the glory that is Canadian snacks.

I think if Jeremy wanted, he could have a whole channel about Canadian snacks. This man is PASSIONATE about his snack foods!

We made some changes to the quality of life around the house as well!

I tidied up my editing station so now I actually want to be in there. No more rat's nest of cabling below the desk! This is just one of those tasks you avoid endlessly until you shut yourself up and actually do it. Very glad is done now.

Previously my cabinets were resting on little blocks of 3"x3" post. I've now made a kicker for them and they're attached to it and so is the surface of the cabinets, so everything is nice and connected.

Because my cabinet is in its final resting place, I can start loading it up with stuff in an organized manner. This is my paint drawer. This is where all the paint goes that companies send me that I don't use a ton (that kimera stuff needs to come out). The rest of my paint goes on my little wall rack. A lot more organization needs to go on inside these cabinets. A big function of these cabinets was to collect all the scattered hobby gear I had in various plastic shelves, closets, etc. around my basement. I'm excited to have everything in one area.

I got a big black display cabinet and started loading it up with minis. Same deal as the cabinets, I had a lot of minis scattered in my basement, now they all have one spot and I have room to grow. I could even put terrain in here!

The last upgrade, and probably the one I'm most scared and excited for is this. I want to install this scaffolding in my ceiling. I have outlets up there and now with this I'll be able to rig lights to it. This means significantly less stands and cables! I'm so excited to not have to crawl through my set like a jungle gym, but getting this thing installed might be a little tricky. So far I've cut all the pipe to length and cleaned them off. The next step is actually the hard one.

That's all for now. Thank you for waiting for me! Most importantly, however, don't forget to PAINT MORE MINIS!

That sounds like an awesome time!!

I took inspiration from your podcast and did a paint night at my LGS for my birthday. Had 6 of my best friends come and we all painted together for fun (not for game or competition,) and just had a good time. Thanks for the idea and it's definitely going to happen more!

very true....all these things I'm thinking abut right now

Also don't forget that it doesn't need to be all or nothing. You can do a slow transition!

I was in an IT job myself (the hardware end) doing desktop support at a local school district. that just changed the other day and I'm starting the process of finding a new IT gig, but I might decide to change up things up and try and create my own Mini business, not sure yet , but I have been thinking about that possibility for a very long time..its all about scrapping up the courage (and the money) to try it

Hey John! Thanks for welcoming me back. I'll be doing more miniatures in the future for sure! I'm glad you liked it!

Hey Scott! welcome back first off, I just got my duchess mini the other day and I am super unpressed with how well it came out. I'm looking forward to painting it ....was this just a one off? or are you thinking of putting out more miniatures in the future?

Yeah, I showed him my plans for it! It's finished drywall on the ceiling. Going to install each of the four contact points into joists in the ceiling.

Did you talk to Jeremy about the Rig for light fixtures on the ceiling? And is the ceiling bare and open, or is it finished with sheetrock and paint? But otherwise, this is awesome.

John Harley
