PRODUCTION JOURNALS - "Krik's Kid" (FINISHED)

(EDIT: This Bit is hereby COMPLETE!

This idea has been sitting on the backburner for a bit, actually being slated for the bi-week I was working on "The Bulbear Gets Bul-BOMBED". I initially shelved the idea, since I wanted to do something with the Yellow Pikmin instead.

The idea was that Krik had a child with a Mamuta, and they birthed a Smoky Progg. I did some sketches at this time to get a good handle on the Progg.

The Progg from Pikmin 4 was more visually interesting, so I went with that design.

I needed a more brief idea lately, so I dug this concept back up and started animating it.

Pikmin 4 revealed that the Smoky Progg is likely caused from the mama Mamuta ingesting glow sap. I like to think Krik uses glow sap when planting Pikmin seeds.

I had to redo two frames of Krik setting his work stuff down.

The briefcase had to be repositioned.

I wanted Krik's eyes to be open on this pose to serve as a motivator for the next pose when he sees the wrapped up egg.

Nearly done on the line art for this shot, I realized I needed the color ref for the Progg, so I drew down his design for the Pikmin Bits.

This was my color ref pic.

This is the first sketch for the pan shot of the Progg's hatching, which I flipped and re-positioned so I can do the comic-like split-screen I did back in "Captain Karo's Cake".

It was a good way to streamline the action.

This would also be the first Pikmin Bit to show the new BG style. I previously had it on the Pikmin Bits intro, and the other Bit I have in production "The Screwy Scramble". This one is short enough to be out to the floor first, so it's gonna be seen here first. While Pokémon Bits takes a more angular, lineless and abstract approach, Pikmin will be more earthy and grainy.

So, because I'm still finishing this up, that's the bulk of what I got to show ya. This will probably take maybe two more days tops to finish. I might head back to the Vi the Imp short I've been working on after this is done.

(UPDATE - 5 5 2024)

The comic shot and the last shot is done, and I'm aiming for a Saturday release.

This was mostly out of wanting to streamline this segment, but I'd love to do more comic scenes like this. Even if it was kind of a hassle to put together since many assets had to be assembled.

I still have a microsecond shot of Krik's newspaper slapping the Progg's cranium to finish, then the footage would be all done. I'll be attaching the finished animation as a file to this post when it is complete.

(UPDATE - 5 6 2024)

File is uploaded, and this Pikmin Bit is hereby DONE!

Thanks for readin' along, see ya next Bit!
