Until mid-high school I hated anime too; Toonami had just got started and was mostly Dragonball Z, which seemed to be 80% percent badly dubbed characters in closeup sweating, panting, and grunting - it wasn't until I walked into our rec room just as some friends were starting the first episode of Evangelion, and maybe it was the unworldly strangeness of the angels or the fact that Shinji seemed even more self-conscious and riddled with neuroses than I was, but I was hooked.
