Di Illustration PSD + Process Video (10h) - Leather Render Texture

Hey guys,

I hope you're doing great! The PSD file and the 10-hour process video of the Di illustration are now available (the HD version would be ready in a few hours).

In this process and PSD, you'll see how I change the exploration of the character based on his motivation. I usually spend hours thinking about the backstory before diving into the canvas, and through the process, I find new ways to add motivation to the character. A clear motivation can help you a lot when adding information to the character design or illustration.

Di started as a gangster and ended up being more like a butcher. What I wanted to preserve at all times was a sense of danger and someone rough. I think the butcher fits better with the scars and knives (shark). After that, I wanted to add a few extra layers with some fun behind them, which is why the hostages are dressed like penguins (shark food). It's important to be clear that these ideas don't pop up immediately; I'm constantly brainstorming to find a proper situation, so don't feel overwhelmed if you find yourself struggling with this – "practice makes perfect."

Colors are very simple in these last illustrations, but I wanted to focus more on textures created by lighting, like the leather. When checking the PSD, notice how values are still very simple, but you can see the "realistic" look. If you want to try, keep the beginning the same and add more values on top. What's going to happen is that your texture will have more volume information, therefore, a more "realistic" look.
