I may have my issues with Xander over the show, but this speech to Willow makes me cry every time. It's just so beautifully done and the two act it so well. I admit, when this aired the Spike thing made no sense to me and honestly watching it now, I still don't think they make it clear what his goal was for what he was looking to receive in these trials. I mean, he calls Buffy the bitch twice, so it seems very signposted that he's not there for any good reason, which only presents him as more of a shit, which always annoys me, as I really liked Spike across season 5 & 6 (albeit acknowledging his relationship with Buffy in 6 is not healthy). On to the final season!

Victoria E (vickster5001)

Loved Suraj during this arc. I dub thee Conscience of the Couch.

John M.

I didn't insult the Normies for anything lol Do better? I stopped reading after that.

Cory Garron

💯 agree - The Dark Willow arc and the finale does almost nothing for me. One of the least memorable season endings

SpikesEcho

The chip did nothing to force Spike to not be evil. It's the number one card people pull on Spike through the seasons: to remember that he's an evil vampire, no matter the chip. Spike over-road his own instincts and nature in his decision to get a soul and cease being what he was

SpikesEcho

The irony of immature people who don't like an opinion, and insults the normies for it, then to whine when someone calls them out on their own trash comment, complaining that "no one can have differing opinions?" 🙄🙄 Dude, she took you to task over your trash comment. It's miles above your disrespectful comment about the normies opinion you don't like

SpikesEcho

Some others already pointed it out but I think you're misremembering the Spike backstory episode. I'm not a Spike apologist but I do think he's a good complex character. At the end of the "fool for love" episode when Buffy rejects him he's 100% an incel but when he's rejected as a human he's not. He's just sad and leaves. I think it shows the difference between having the soul and not having the soul. Being a vampire in this universe twists and perverses a lot of their human qualities which you can also see with Angel and other vampires that we see as humans.

Trish

Angel - initially I thought Holtz was sincere in his actions and words to Connor. That his vengeance wasn't worth destroying Connor. And that Justine acted alone and manipulated Connor to believe Angel did it. Would've made an interesting character development for Holtz to forgive Angel. But makes sense he was really just playing the long game all along. Could've fully redeemed Holtz' character if he was sincere, but makes sense as a villain that he always acted out of vengeance.

Carson Coleman

"the beginning of the woke era" what does that even mean?

cosmotron

exactly this. it was the magic from giles that made the difference

D J

Season 6 is my favourite season

D J

I liked some parts and the ending but S4 was by far the weakest season for me I'd say 1&2 are sorta equal then 3 and last 4

Daniel Gonzalez

Spike 100% was going to get his soul back. He could already harm Buffy with the chip; no need to get it removed since he could already hurt her. It was just a cheap mislead by Joss.

Carson Coleman

Lol yes it does I'm not going to elaborate as it's a big spoiler but amends is directly tied to buffy s7, but sure they've seen that ep and they won't figure out how it's connected till later

Macs

What? Someone else who doesn't allow differing opinions? What a joy you must be!

Cory Garron

#Sundayrundown The reason why season 4 was not liked so much was it started at the beginning of the Woke era and with people not realizing it takes about 2 years to make 1 season of a cartoon. It got a lot of blowback for being "woke" by focusing on all female lead stories and other reasons as you will see but for me it's one of the best seasons my ranking is 2 4 1 3 enjoy

BradBoimler

Woo! Season 4 Young Justice! 😆

Catradora fan

Spidey: "this m*thaf*cka didn't come back with no rope!" That's funny as hell, my face hurts.

sonicburst3

Grow tf up

x_Rhi_x

I sort of agree with what you're saying, however, she didn't try and hurt any of them except xander *after* she sucked the magic from Giles- the pure magic which was meant to put some humanity back into her. So there was also that reason why she didn't care about hurting everyone, but did when xander interrupted her

x_Rhi_x

It's not a spoiler. Youre the only one making it a spoiler by making connections to s7 at all...whatbi said about snow and angel not ending his life has literally nothing to do with s7

x_Rhi_x

I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, but for the next seasons I think it would be good to get the angel and Buffy reactions back on the same episodes instead of angel being an episode behind. Sometime before the end of the seasons, I’ll just say that. Thank you!

MarsSpars

Great show

rickie woodson

Strong end to season 6 (no you're crying 😭) and strong beginning for season 4. Young justice a lot of great surprises and comic book easter eggs coming. Love that L 😉. Only watched season 7 once of buffy so its going be kinda of a first watch. I remember broadly the plot but thats about it.

rickie woodson

Young Justice season 4 has begun! As you can see it's only been a year since all that has happened last time and M'gann & Conner are now planning their wedding starting with going to Marzz for M'gann's parents blessings. But now something else is going on and it involves her mad martian brother again and another mysterious figure in the shadows somewhere. Also at the end it sounds like Black Lightning is doing some real good for the league as their new leader and Violet is still down about Brion sadly.

Brandon Gibbs

tl;dr - can't wait to see you all react to Season 7! :) But awww, we're almost done.

outdoorcats

There's a whole high-quality 90-minute video essay arguing that Buffy Season 6 is great ("You Should Watch Buffy Season 6" by Sarah Z) that goes into the main criticisms that fans of the show have of it and does a pretty good job arguing in the season's favor. (Maybe wait to watch it until you've finished the show - there may be Season 7 spoilers, I don't remember). I've watched Buffy all the way through a bunch of times over the years, and I feel like I've gone back and forth on Season 6 every time I watch it. When I was an edgy teenager, I thought it was the BEST season because of how dark it is. Later I thought it was too one-note and just overly miserable. I've come around to thinking it's just a great metaphor for being in your early 20s, which for a lot of people is a really rough and depressing time. How consistent is "Buffy"? Literally every season is a metaphor for a different chapter in maturing to adulthood. Including Season 7... :)

outdoorcats

I mean, I don't think it's true that it *couldn't* be Buffy. I absolutely think it could have worked with her character, and like I said it would have tied better thematically to Buffy's own arc.

cosmotron

Hope this makes it for Sunday Rundown

Zee

It can't be buffy because she barely knew willow before the magic. Yes she was friends with her but that is not the same as Xander's. It had to be someone who loved all sides of willow for years. The side that willow hates and hides. The one she thinks nobody could ever love.

Christopher simeon

@allison of course he does he doesn't have a soul, but he still loves buffy and so he is determined to become the man she wants a real boy, not a horrific caricature of it, its the most simple of misdirection you might think he is just trying to become "spike" again, but what he is really doing is trying to become a real person again, its not that complicated, of course he is calling her a bitch and everything because the demon spike is set on becoming a real boy because of buffy as the demon spike loves her but he can't express that except in hatred he is banishing himself because thats what buffy deserves, it makes plenty of sense

Macs

Xander's final speech always makes me cry. But I do still think it should have been Buffy there at the end with Willow. I like her coming out of her own grave again, but her realization down there feels rather sudden. I think it would have fit the story and her arc better if it had been her who convinced Willow that life and the world was worth it (and Dawn could still be part of that, as I do like that aspect). Which, in turn, ties into my feelings that Xander should have died instead of Tara. I think it would have made everything more complicated, and his death would have a huge impact on EVERYONE going forward. The Spike stuff...is incredibly misleading and not in a good way. As others have pointed out, it's meant to be that Spike wanted this the whole time. But they didn't even tell James Marsters that was Spike's intentions, and that's a huge mistake. While I think the dialogue was poorly written too (it's meant to be read "either way" but really comes off as too aggressive for that to work) it could have worked if Marsters knew how he was meant to play it. He's a good actor, he absolutely could have done it in an ambiguous way. As is, it really doesn't come off that way at all, and I don't blame people for thinking that it wasn't what he wanted to do.

cosmotron

#SundayRundown YJ Me personally, season 4 is my favorite. I think the season was better received than 3 by fans, as it's more focused on the OG cast (as you saw with this episode, it's still got a HUGE cast of characters, but I mean we got Superboy and MM). Greg Weisman is the showrunner/creator, he voiced Snapper Carr who was always a teacher in the show (back in S1 when MM and SB went to school). In the comics, he got roped into the superhero stuff, became a guy in the chair during S2. MM and SB rent out the home or something from Carr, maybe a guesthouse situation. The cop lady he married was a civilian cop we saw in S3 when Halo was having a crisis and drinking and shooting guns and kissing Harper. (All to say, lots of background nonsense, don't worry you don't remember them). I'm sure you guys have noticed by now as well, all the credits have dialogue during them, a couple have post-credit scenes as well.

Charlie Maletich

I'm mixed about Dark Willow. Some of it works for me, and some of it doesn't. I do agree about the Buffy stuff though. I've said more than once that I think it should have been Xander who died, and part of that is because despite how much his speech in this episode made me cry...it should have been Buffy doing this. If it had been her - or even her and Dawn - there with Willow, finally wanting to live and desperate to convince her to do the same. I think that would have fit in a lot better with her arc. There's nice symmetry to her coming out of her own grave again, but I think you could have gotten that AND had her confront Willow at the end.

cosmotron

no its isn't its total crap they waited to make it after she died because they knew she would never allow that nonsense to be put on screen, its terrible the only thing positive I could say about it is casting for lestat is pretty good literally everything else is awful. complete disregard or respect for the source Louis is having his interview in broad daylight for instance, its a directed and a planned attack on the actual source and that they launched it weeks after anne rice died makes it even more foul, they waited until the literal week she died then they pillaged her stories they tried with the mayfair witches first, and then this, its so disingenuous and so so wrong, it makes me sick to my stomach what they have done, shame on anyone who supports what they are doing to her stories.

Macs

#SundayRundown, Young Justice. I'm so excited for you guys to experience s4! And I'll keep holding out hope in my heart that s5 will happen someday. It's wild to me how some sections of the fanbase don't like s3 or 4, when for me they are both excellent and continue the story and themes that have always been present in the show very well. In particular, all of the stuff on Mars is super interesting, and entirely a creation of the show (the DC comics versions of Mars are quite different, and usually more simplistic). I really like all the details given about their culture, as well as how their city looks. They feel like a real culture, with both good and bad aspects, that lives and breathes and changes as time goes on. The show also always does a lot of great callbacks through dialogue, whether it's the slang that starts with Robin back in s1 ("feeling the aster" and all that) or taking on Impulse's terms about The Reach ("crash" = cool) and so on. But one of my favorites that's easy to miss is when Terra says "today's the day", which was a repeated line in the very first episode of the show. When we first met all of the characters, and they said at different points throughout that "today is the day" they got to see the Justice League's base of operations. The show repeats/references previous dialogue a lot in that way, and it's something that's really great to notice on rewatch in particular.

cosmotron

Chris K. I never understood how the audience was supposed to accept Spike intentionally going to get his soul either. He had just tried to force Buffy to have sex with him and then calls her a bitch repeatedly while trying to be the man she deserves? Lol. Like make it make sense.

Alison

#sundayrundown you guys now have the context to properly pop-off at the scene in episode 3x6 where nightwing and tigress confront ra's al ghul on his island. i missed the post for 'under the red hood', but i really think you guys would get alot more out of that scene (and the captions/credits) now that you have more context

Mason Graye

You guys need to watch interview with a vampire after you done with the buffyverse it’s so underrated and such good tv right now two seasons of pure storytelling and acting gold with such a wide story honestly a must watch 🙏🏾🤞🏾

Jay.NAS

Chris: "You want season 7? It's already on our Patreon!" LIES lol :P

Cory Stanish

Why does it matter how Angelus got his soul and turned into Angel versus Spike? Angelus and Spike were both evil. Spike was content and happy being evil until he was forced to get the chip so they both were forced to change.

Alison

“Actually that’s *Uncle* Filthy Demon to you!” Poor Lorne, he spent months taking care of Connor alongside Angel, and he’s the one who watched over him most often when the team were off fighting the Good Fight, and now this boy is treating him the way Gunn’s old gang did at the beginning of the season, as if all that time together was nothing and it breaks my heart.

Brendan O'Connor

#SundayRundown, we’re at the final season (so far) but it was good to hear the theme back! As you can kinda guess from the opening.. you guys will be mainly following the OG team from S1 in various mini arcs that’ll all connect eventually. In case all the terms confused you; Green Martians are the majority. White is the minority. M’Gann’s situation is interesting since she’s biracial but has tried to conform to both sides to be a accepted FYI, there’s 2 5 episode arcs. Episodes 9-13 & 22-26. Just a heads up.

Zee

Spike, the overindulged fan favourite. *spits* http://offline.buffy.de/www.destinything.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/1070972130.jpg

Cory Garron

If the writers have to go that far to explain it, I feel they kind of failed in the execution. Or they're backtracking.

Cory Garron

Dara absolutely gets it. Spike the soulless vampire is a monster, but he hated himself for what he tried to do and knew there was only one way he could be the man Buffy deserves.

Erik Griffiths

Buffy climbing out of a hole in the ground and the title of the episode being "Grave" always remind me of Anya's line from OMwF: "she came from the grave much graver." Now she has hope, drive, and purpose again.

Dara

Greg Weisman is not the same as Greg Baldwin, the guy who took over for Mako as Iroh. Greg Weisman is the co-creator of Young Justice and also creator of Gargoyles and Spectacular Spider-Man. He also worked on Star Wars: Rebels in the first season.

Ren Davis

In the post-episode discussion, there's a lot of speculation about what Spike will be and what he'll do now that he has earned his soul back. I'd like to point out some things you guys have mentioned before that weren't brought up, probably due to the rage and disgust we all feel for him after his attempted SA of Buffy. Spike has always had an impressive ability to read people, which is how he can so easily manipulate them. He has a deep understanding of human emotion and motivation, and he can foresee consequences of behavior and events that others miss. We can look at the little we know of William (his human self) and see glimmers of these abilities. After he professed his love for Cecily and she rejected him, he did not have a "bad" reaction -- he got upset and cried because he'd had his feelings hurt. That's a fair reaction to rejection and the insults she and his "friends" hurled at him. He left the party with no apparent intention of doing any harm; he escaped a painful situation. I think this is important to remember as the discussion regarding Spike and his morality continues into next season. (I'd also like to point out Spike went to great lengths to get his soul; Angelus had his thrust upon him as a punishment, it was not his choice.)

Dara

i think the red hering wasnt the most well written thing in the show. At least leave the dialogue open for intrepretation, refering to Buffy as "that bitch" twice while on his mission does not exactly register to the 7x02 speech.

Chris K.

Yeah the letter is basically all part of the ruse in Angel. It makes Holtz look reasonable, like he was trying to make an actual gesture to Angel and then Angel has murdered him regardless. Absolutely classic sneaky fucker, psychological warfare move, you can tell Angel isn't in touch with the Angelus part of himself or thinking in that kinda way at all cause Angelus'd be like "haha, that's exactly the kinda shit I'd do you dumb fuck", he'd just kill everyone afterward too.

Kongolor

I think you are missing that bringing back the slayer is the catalyst. That is how it connects with willow.

Christopher simeon

M’Gann’s sister Em'ree J'onzz is voiced by Hynden Walch who played Starfire from Teen Titans (reunion with Greg Cipes who plays Beast Boy in this show and Teen Titans 😊) and Carl Lumbly, her father, played Martian Manhunter from Justice League/Justice League Unlimited.

Ren Davis

Since they have watched the Angel s3 finale I will say this, out of every villian and big bad from the entirety of the buffyverse there is only one who made plan executed plan succeeded in said plan and that was MF holtz just a human a really really pissed off human. The most successful villian in the entire buffyverse

Macs

But I agree about some of the Willow stuff, I think she’s a great actress, but a few parts of her monologuing fall flat, and is even a bit cringy. Though there are certain lines and scenes that do hit it for me, so I still like the arc as a whole.

Cassidy

It shows Xander watching when Anya is talking to Buffy. He leaves because he heard her say that Buffy can’t beat her, nothing supernatural can.

Cassidy

Your right no it doesn’t really matter to me but they acted like it was life and death every time someone mentioned traveling they where like why isn’t their a tube to there it’s a vacation not a villain or anything if there was they would use a teleportation hero

Chago_kiba_Lee

I love the "I am going for walk" moment for groo, they didn't treat him like a joke its such a simple lowkey scene with lorne and so well done.

Macs

Suraj, Dawn didn’t kill the vampire that attacked her in the morgue, it was Buffy. The first and only vampire she killed was the one who seduced her and tried to turn her in “all the way”.

Vicky N

#SundayRunDown We watched Dark Willow directly use her powers against Buffy, Giles, Dawn, Anya and she felt no remorse. When she hurt Xander physically, Willow immediately felt an internal pain as if she hurt herself. It made perfect sense because Xander and Willow were best friends long before Buffy came to town. They are the closest out of all the Scoobies. If anyone could reach Willow emotionally, it would be Xander…her ride or die for life.

Alison

I think Marketa is misremembering the Fool for love episode. William (spike) wasn't an incel that decided to become a vampire to go on an anger filled rampage when he was rejected. He was a bumbling, shy, poet who went to go cry in a barn after he was rejected. There he was coerced by drusilla into becoming a vampire.

mary smith

Buffy Season 6 got a lot of flack back when it came out, but I always thought it was an underrated season. I feel even stronger about it now. Sure, it’s a darker season that focuses more on the human flaws of the characters, but it truly pays off a lot of the characterization that has been built up over six seasons. From Buffy’s trauma at having to be a weapon at 16 to Willow’s insecurity and seeing witchcraft as her empowerment to Xander’s self-loathing at his perceived inadequacy to Spike being a fool for love who just wants someone to love him back to even Anya retreating back into vengeance because she couldn’t deal with the pain of being rejected at the altar. All of these problems are fundamentally human, and I think it was a wise choice to focus on these smaller issues in scope because Buffy is ultimately about our anxieties manifested as supernatural monsters for us to overcome. And even the Trio, villains also motivated by petty human desires of ego and entitlement, being the big bads felt right at home in a season ultimately about human struggles. Dealing with these problems as these characters enter adulthood is the perfect “big bad” for them to fight in the next phase of their lives.

Ren Davis

I love this season. I think it had the shows bravest character writing. To have every character reach their absolute rock bottom at the same time is kind of unheard of, and to me it really works as a theme this season. Everyone's villain is their own trauma. Buffy and her depression/grief leading to self destructive behaviors and isolation; Xander and his insecurities/family trauma leading him to self destruct and ruin his relationship; Willow and her high school insecurities/addiction to power leading to her ruining her relationships and almost the world. Heck, can even throw dawn and her abandoment issues & spike as being their own worst enemies. LOVE that it was Xander saving the day with just the genuine love of friendship to bookend the season.

mary smith

Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t care for the “Dark Willow” arc or this finale. I think it’s the weakest season finale. Dark Willow evil monologues are clichés and not particularly well acted. The resolution, metaphorically makes sense. Buffy’s spirit (Willow) is broken since she’s been torn out from heaven. She’s restored by the power of her mind (Giles) and her heart (Xander). While in the season 4 finale the metaphor and the reality blended perfectly, in this case there’s something lacking and it’s the slayer herself participating in the resolution. She’s reduced to a pointless fight in a hole with run of the mill demons. Nothing particularly heroic or cathartic about that. It was of so little importance that Xander didn’t bother to find that rope and left to find Willow. And how did he know where to find her? Maybe he overheard Anya talking to Buffy? Who knows. The final realization that Buffy have, doesn’t feel earned. Having said that, of course I loved the yellow crayon speech. As others have already mentioned all of Spike’s dialogues were intentionally misleading. But there were clues that he didn’t want to have his chip removed because as established he can hurt Buffy with the chip. By now you’ve seen the first episodes of the next season, so it’s clear now what he was seeking and why.

Vicky N

yes its amends and it is a spoiler because s7 of buffy, kinda a big deal, but its time for them to be reminded so eh

Macs

He also played Martian Manhunter's father in Supergirl.

Zach Hershman

I love s6 and it's terrifyingly realistic (with fantastical allegories and metaphors of course) depiction of depression. The imagery of Buffy crawling out of a grave at the end and her going through stages of depression for the whole series to seeing light at the end...gorgeous

x_Rhi_x

I think you're referring to a buffy episode in the past, so I don't think its a spoiler to say? But it was s3 ep 10, Amends. The PTB intervened to make it snow/dark all day because they didn't want Angel to unalive himself

x_Rhi_x

I'm happy to delete my post too, so idk see what everyone else thinks

Macs

Rana the Powers that Be do not directly interfere they nudge they do small things to push things in certain directions, their have been 2 incidences so far in both buffy and angel they actually did something, one was letting angel in to kates apartment without an invite the other also involves angel when he was still on buffy but you aren't going to guess what that was, you'll find out more about the PTB s4 of angel

Macs

Is....is this a joke or was this sincere? o.o

Smash Bran'Discootch

#SundayRunDown. Fun fact, M'gann's father was voiced by Carl Lumbly, who voiced Martian Manhunter in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited (2000s shows).

Brandon Corchado

It's kind of hilarious that Jonathan and Andrew thought fleeing to Mexico would save them from Dark Willow - as though she would respect an international border. Dark Willow don't need no stinking passport! The supervising producer of this episode, Jane Espenson, said in a 2002 interview that "We did a big old mislead on yall where we wanted you to think he was going to go get the chip. We knew the whole time from the very beginning he was going to go get a soul. And when he says 'I want Buffy to have what she deserves, give the Slayer what she deserves', he means a lover with a soul." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYjJjmvy09o

S4 🔥🔥🔥

Zee

Oh yes, the Buffy finale.................I'll shall return

sonicburst3

I would usually just opt not to include it, but I believe they’ve seen the first couple episodes of season 7, so I figured it wouldn’t be a big deal. I could be wrong about that though, so I wouldn’t be opposed to editing it if people feel strongly enough I should.

Derek Jolstead

stupid laundry. figured i could watch the last two eps of buffy before the new one dropped. no time no time. oh well. the trilogy watch begins!

rickie woodson

i'm kinda of the opinion that you should let them get it wrong, I noticed on a few other reaction channels the same thing happened and the penny drops in s7 when...well thats another spoiler, for me watching when it aired I seem to remember I was sure it was intentional, but eh its a minor spoiler I guess

Macs

We see Cordelia bestow a “benediction” on Connor when she uses her flashlight powers to purge Connor of his traumatic memories of Quor’toth. Connor believed that darkness was his true nature, shaped by his experiences in a hell dimension. In that way, Quor’toth effectively became his “Angelus,” and this is the first time we see that Connor is a reflection of Angel. Like Angel said, he knew it was only a matter of time before Connor hated him because deep down Angel hates himself for his past sins. Angel still sees Angelus as a part of himself and Connor sees himself as a product of Angelus and Darla’s atrocities. Holtz is the physical representation of their internalized sins that weigh them down while Cordelia is their benediction that helps them move past their self-loathing.

Ren Davis

#SundayRundown Spike decided to go through horrible torture so that he could be eternally tortured by a soul and the Normies seem to think that means he will be the big bad. William became a vampire after Halfrec responded to him professing his love by saying something like, "How could I possibly love you? You're beneath me." It was depicted more as a suicide than revenge too. He didn't immediately go on a rampage, though I won't say more.

Trevor

it takes months to fly to mars and earth doesn't have many spaceships that are even capable of doing that, boomtube gives immediate direct access, so human tourists maybe even...immigrants!

Macs

So as far as Spike goes, his attempt to get a soul was intentional, and the chip thing was just a misdirect with the dialogue to save the big reveal for the end. (Hopefully that’s okay to say, but to me it always seemed like the writers want you to realize this is the case heading into S7.) Many people obviously felt they went too far with him in S6 to the point it alienated you from caring about his character, so I’m excited to see how you all feel about his role in the final season based on the possible directions it could go that you talked about in your discussion. Also props to Suraj for catching the shot of Buffy crawling out of another grave to bookend the season, although this time she’s not alone, and finally in a better place emotionally. For all the season’s ups and downs, the emotional catharsis at the end of this one definitely feels earned.

Derek Jolstead

ok

BradBoimler

I don’t get the big deal about them having to fly instead of tubbing in

Chago_kiba_Lee

They say this for when they post it on YouTube later.

you guys keep saying your ahead on young justice reactions on patreon but your not its just same week
