I think it depends on the writer. Always assumed Gotham was a mix of Chicago, Jersey and NY

Harley tried to persuade them to stop but now they've gone too far and now Harley is planning to take them all DOWN!!!

2024-04-08 23:24:20 +0000 UTCnew york has many burroghs so both gotham and metropolis are new york like. i prefer to view them as jersey (gotham) and new york (metropolis), especially since the cities are connected the same way via a tunnel (subway train) and highway. wendy williams lives in jersey and then drives to new york for work as an example. the island of gotham is similar to manhatten in that its an island or you can compare it to rhode island or long island as they both are in the new york area, but has the seedy underbelly and roughness of a bronx. gotham has the four bridges (known as the gates) connect the city to the outside world and are the only ways in via land. metropolis is a city of the future, very clean and prestine. its more like conneticut and manhatten combined into one.
