[UNCUT] AOT Final Finale!

Guys! It's done! We can't believe this journey has come to an end. I have not cried this much before. Did you know this was Marketa's very first anime ever!!

What are your thoughts on the ending? Are you satisfied with it?

Below is the uncut and reaction (w/skit) is posted on Youtube

UNCUT: https://thenormies.com/attackontitan/ (last page)

I am not crying, you are!!

[UNCUT] AOT Final Finale!

Comments

Im not seeing the dubbed cast reaction to the episode on the link. I assumed that they are going to wait for the dubbed version to react, but seeing their faces on the thumbnail it made me think that they were going to react to it together especially with the skit. Am i the only one not seeing bot the DUB AND SUB cast reaction ??

#SundayRundown About the Mikasa OVA and alternate timeline thing, the anime did confirm they have a multiverse. In the manga after almost every chapter isayama would add extra comic strips of the gang in school during a modern time like ours. It would seem like a fun "What If" version of the show but then Mappa actually added 2 scenes of them during the scene where Gabi shoots off erens head and zeke catches it. You see a "goth Mikasa next to a nerdy Armin with glasses" and also "Rainer eren levi jean armin and connie in a sauna" . For reference search "AOT School Caste" --------- (EDIT) found this on youtube, might be easier to explain lol -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3EuDQMmmkg&ab_channel=eloquit

That assessment is more or less fine, but the show needs develope that A LOT better. The episode showing her origin story perfectly establishes her broken mentality, justified indignation, and contextualizes ALL of her actions throughout the Rumbling. I think this could have been acomplished with a flashback to how her actually articulating to Eren that it's "love", would make it way more acceptable at least. Eren just saying that and leaving it at that is hot garbage. The thing that is the source of the Titans is such a mystery that her emotions didn't even need to be a factor in how it lasted for 2000 years, so even as a plot twist it was completely unnecessary

My problem with genocide was the right answer then Zeke's plan becomes the right course of action. The Eldians are a much smaller population compared to the rest of the world. Since the reveal that the old Eldian Empire really was as bad as current Marley and the rest of the world's hatred was based on terrible things done to them a century ago. If the people of Paradise have the right to genocide everyone else for how they were treated for a century then this is just saying that the rest of the world treating the Eldians this way because of what happened go them for 1900 years was justified. That kind of thinking his what got everyone in the place they were.

Jjop017

I took Ymir's love to be similar to Stockholm Syndrome. She had been a slave for so long and treated terribly that I think obeying Fritz was already ingrained so she never broke free when she got the power. Afterward he started treating her slightly better that in her mind she rationalized his terrible actions and deluded herself into believing it was love. That delusion kept her go on for 2000 years and she still needed someone to help her break out of that mindset. I think trauma all these characters shaped them into following the destructive mindsets that they developed.

Another great show that's almost perfect until the terrible ending. I think my biggest issue is with Ymir. I hate that they went with the "she loved the king" angle without even giving any glimpse as to why that may be the case. All of her actions up to that point are buyable with the "broken slave mentality". Ymir could've just been bound by the Titan power for 2000 years, and not her own f@#$in choice to obey. Then there's the very misplaced attempt at comic relief between Eren and Armin with Eren actually being crybaby bitch at the thought of Mikasa moving on after EVERYTHING he did for that purpose. Given the way he "experiences time" if his emotions are still like that it makes no sense to me how he settled on the actions he did when (to my understanding) he's repeatedly tried influencing the past with his memories. I think his "villain arc" should actually be who he is at the end with no real "he's still a sweet boy inside" BS. Then there's Mikasa. I feel like they spent the whole series building up to some crazy reveal for why she is the way she is, and all we get is enough context to assume Ymir wanted her to kill Eren because they both had the same simp problem, and her headaches come from Ymir being a creeper! In the end it doesn't even look like Mikasa even HAD to be the one to do it (but I guess that's why they actually turned everyone else into Titans at the very end). I think the writter got SO used to having amazing plot twists through out the story that he didn't consider he didn't absolutely HAVE to end with one. I think the better ending narrative is Eren did all of this to eradicate the Titans by freeing Ymir, with an unavoidably hands off approach to the following conflicts.

The Normies

Hard disagree, I think the ending was as close to perfect as this story could reasonably get. It had fantastic action, it tackled the big philosophical issues of the story through the lens of the main characters, and had strong emotional closure for all the main players.

Liesmith

Maybe you just didn't get it heh

Jesse Vincente

one of the worst endings to a anime/manga I've ever witness

Not the important characters...

Captain K'nuckles

For the discussion which I know is in the youtube video, Marketa asks why Ymir or Erin wouldn't just end the titan curse when they have the power to erase memories and euthanize. The titan curse is bound to Ymir's love for King Fritz. King Fritz wanted the titans to continue upon his death bed and so Ymir continued it. But of course Ymir suffered under this "love" for her abuser and was looking for someone for 2000 years who has an answer to it. That person is Mikasa who she was watching (and is the origin of Mikasa's headaches whenever Ymir is watching her). She sees Mikasa kill the person she loves who was doing terrible things and this gives her the drive to end the curse finally despite her "love" or attachment to King Fritz.

@David Butt, Quite possible, but the cycle of racist hatred would be broken. If anything, that would just be a near global wide civil war, which would be easier to sit down, talk over, and come to a mutually beneficial agreement vs a war fought on blind, generationally passed down racism.

Jakari24

Genocide is only bad for the Genocided ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ˜‚

Jakari24

Paradis was doomed no matter what happened though. Even if Eren had succeeded eventually the Eldian Empire would grow again then divisions amongst the Eldians would've eventually shown up splitting the empire up into multiple factions which would've expanded again and started wars with each other, and then the exact same thing would've happened. The point is that the cycle of war and destruction never ends and that would've been true even if Eren succeeded because people will always divide into separate groups that eventually come to hate each other.

David Butt

Genocide is actually bad and self-preservation doesn't justify it

Payam Sharifi

All I gotta say is, The only reason Paradis ended up being destroyed is because Eren was stopped. Had His friends not idiotically try to save the people who hated them for existing, the outside world would have never retaliated because there'd be nobody left alive outside Paradis TO retaliate. Isayama probably just couldn't bring himself to write such an ending, so he chose this one. I would've, but that's neither here nor there ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Jakari24

That anime only scene gave me some closure from the manga read long ago. See you in hell Eren :/

MojoJojoGojo

That's not crazy, literally that how most people die in the show

Omar Bautista

Ah hell no i got baited. I ain't watching this, i'll wait for the goated Dub crew, thanks.

xMaestro21

Itโ€™s been great watching a certain section of the fan base (all the alt-right jaegerists who think white people are the repressed Eldians) cry about the ending People really thought the manga was fascist right up until the end

space colon

Good old Mikasa "necrophilia" Ackerman.

TrixieTurner

Till the end I'm team eren historia and jean mikasa.

Itโ€™s crazy how Eren died in the mouth of a Titan in episode 5 of szn 1 and died in the mouth of his Titan in the end.

Khayta

So, I basically got semi-spoiled by The Normies or whoever moderates the comments here. During season 4, I stated that it looked like Eren was pulling a Lelouch. Him transforming in an Eldian apartment complex and slaughtering innocent Eldians and Marlyeans alike made It appear he was trying to make himself the villain. Eren's sudden change in behavior towards the people he cared about the most solidified this theory. My comment was swiftly deleted by a mod so I took that as confirmation that my prediction was likely true. There's no doubt that AoT is a better written story than Code Geass, but I do feel Code Geass did a better job of hiding the MC's true intentions. As Schenizel would say, Lelouch wore the mask the better. In any case, this was a great finale to an excellent series and definitely solidifies AoT as one of the GOATs. It sucks that I got spoiled on many of the deaths a couple of years ago but fortunately that didn't take away from those moments.

While I'm not a manga reader (yet), I would like to say that I think it doesn't matter and that's the point. It does seem like Paradis could've been the aggressor, in my opinion, but I'd also say I think its meant to be vague to better help get across the point of basic human instinct of war and survival.

iameNeRG (Rodney Gant)

yeah same

iameNeRG (Rodney Gant)

When I first read the ending it seemed that the future war in Paradis happened pretty quickly, maybe a few decades after Mikasaโ€™s passing, but looking at it now it seems like it could even be a couple of centuries. Yes itโ€™s a โ€œdownerโ€ ending, but the reprieve seeming way longer than I initially thought feels somewhat less nihilistic than what I got from the manga. Another thing Iโ€™m reconsidering now is; who was the โ€œaggressorโ€ in the future war? Whoโ€™s mainly responsible for starting the โ€œloopโ€ again? Weโ€™ve always seen the story from an Eldian POV and thatโ€™s still the case here, so I simply assumed that Paradis was the victim and the rest of the world attacked SPECIFICALLY in retaliation for the Rumbling. Now however, Iโ€™m kind of unsure because of Historia words. In the end Eldia is back on top and getting militaristic, and we also know that for most of the in-universe history Eldians were jingoistic except for the 100 years between the exodus to Paradise and the present events. The anime also make the rest of the world seem comparatively more โ€œpacifiedโ€ than the manga did, so while I initially thought the outside world doubling down on hate, maybe the future war is really an escalation to Eldia getting back into some Eldia nonsense.
