2023-08-01 22:02:08 +0000 UTCI'm not surprised at Pat's take on Butterfly's taking over but was surprised Suraj agreed with that nonsense. The bottom line is innocent people are killed due to the Butterly's actions regardless of how "noble" their goal might be and the long term implications of their actions are pretty horrible. (who decides who dies? Is there a world wide lottery of death?, etc). The needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few is a philosophy humanity should embrace but not at the expense of humanity losing its agency. There's also no guarantee the Butterfly's don't fall back to their old ways once they get into a position of real power. Power corrupts and all that. As bad as we think things are and the media getting off on the shock value, the reality is we're currently living in the most prosperous and peaceful time in human history. Even world wide hunger is at an all time low. That's been accomplished through thousands of years of strife, social movements, and personal evolution. We don't really learn any lessons or evolve as humanity if an outside force is making decisions for us; we evolve through our own mistakes. That's human.

2023-08-01 20:50:26 +0000 UTCPam’s art school guy is Harry from Mad Men lol. Surprised no one mentioned it since I believe some people on the couch have watched it iirc. Glad the Pam art school storyline is over. It made sense for her character but from a writing standpoint the drama was pretty weak and had no real bite. I think if they were gonna do a storyline that clearly won’t stick because of status quo (Pam obs won’t permanently stay out of the office), they could have made it funnier. That said there’s another storyline coming up this season that’s really good and funny that shows maybe they learned from the Pam stuff. And I think some people are being a bit harsh about the long distance thing between them. Even an hour long drive (two hours both ways) isn’t exactly trivial. There’s been relationships that start straining when one partner works long hours and a common complaint (which Suraj mentions) is something like not waking up next to your partner everyday and just seeing them less than you wanted out of the relationship. That being said it was still kind of a weak storyline and glad she’s back in the office now.
