poor Doyle :(

Daniel R

Doyle, the original Ned Stark. Only made it to episode 9.

Kim

One thing to pay attention to about Giles and Willow is when they really disagree it’s about ethics/morals or the danger of magic. Giles is overly cautious because of what he did as Ripper and Willow is overly confident because of her first spell re-ensouling Angel and how powerful she potentially is.

So some fun Young Justice/DC comics factoids. Chris said there should be a superhero called Devil Kid and everyone should hate him. Blue Devil and Kid Devil are two characters that exist and are partially defined by lack of respect and how nothing goes right with their lives. Also Brain and Malah are dating! However Malah is a male gorilla. Diversity win.

Here's the reason for the conflicting stories on Glenn Quinn and Doyle's departure. For years, in interviews and audio commentaries, Whedon maintained that he always wanted to kill off a main credited actor a few episodes into a show. That he tried but couldn't do it on Buffy with Eric Balfour's character, since two versions of the opening credits wasn't in the low, low shot on grainy shiteo budget, so he did it with Doyle. A few years ago, Angel showrunner David Greenwalt and his second-in-command Tim Minear came out and admitted that the rumors were true. He was written out due to his substance abuse issues with the network and studio being worried about his influence on his real life friend David Boreanaz and Greenwalt and Minear being tired of him showing up late and not knowing his lines. Some added context to all this is that the first season of Angel was a fucking nightmare behind the scenes. The network shut production down after the second episode and original planned direction of the show were deemed way too dark (Kate was originally going to be a cop undercover as a sex worker and battling drug addiction), and Greenwalt let go of the entire writing staff except for Minear due to them not quite working out with the mix of tones that a Buffyverse/Mutant Enemy show has. So, while Greenwalt and Minear kept the writers' original story ideas and credited them all as writers, they both threw out their scripts and wrote new ones completely from scratch. They ended up writing 12 of the post-pilot episodes themselves, while being given occasional breaks thanks to some Buffy writers and a couple old friends (Howard Gordon who worked on The X-Files with Minear and Jim Kouf who previously co-wrote a bunch of teen movies with Greenwalt and eventually acted as his second-on-command on Grimm) guest writing an episode or two as a favor. Also MAD TV writer Garry Campbell, for some reason. Don't know how he ended up in the mix. In another universe where the season wasn't such a troubled production (Which impressively doesn't really show up on screen, Doyle's sudden departure aside) maybe Greenwalt and Minear would have convinced the network and studio to let Glenn seek treatment and come back when he was in a better condition. But I think they were both so overworked and overwhelmed trying to keep the show from falling apart that they just didn't want to deal with that. There was an idea they wanted to use as a backdoor in a few years to bring him back for a story arc, but he passed away before that could happen. But that's a story for later in the series. To their credit, they designed the "Doyle Trilogy" (the one with his ex-wife, the one with Buffy where we get some worldbuilding with the Oracles and his final episode) to flesh out his character further and give both Doyle and Glenn a great departure that respected the character and completed his arc. "We all have something to atone for." "Maybe you can tell me about that someday."

and suraj has said that they can be spoiled no matter how hard they try not to be, he literally said it last sunday rundown

Macs

It's not "a chance" they have actively said on the Sunday rundown, that they have mods go through the comments and show them any fun facts and good comments that aren't spoilers. The only place they can get spoiled is during streams

Unstablebeast

yea we've seen it they haven't the fun is watching them react to the things we know are coming, just imagine their reaction to angel s1 finale reveal, I am so curious if they will even know what they just saw, you on the other hand are happy to dump really important spoilers on the chance that none of them will see it. You are being a jackass

Macs

Now that's a legitimate suggestion, I'll do that. Again this comment is meant for people who have already seen the show

Unstablebeast

I agree you should take it down but at the least maybe you can edit and do a few more enters so the text is hidden under the see more button? Then there's less chance of accidental reading πŸ‘

bits

nah sorry at this point you are obviously just being a jerk

Macs

its not previously its after Michelle didn't star in HiMYM until after buffy obviously to us she's willow but to be fair that show (HiMYM) is much more well known in current popular zeitgeist, you might say its a show normies would know well

Macs

Because it's obvious to you who's seen it, who knows they form a relationship, but to someone who's never seen it, they could guess that, but they could also guess spike dies, or they form a close friendship, or that thos spell happens again, and they wouldn't know until they actually get there, and again, the normies have these checked for them, and any fans should stop when it says SPOILER

Unstablebeast

How could that possibly be considered vague?

K Murray

I've done it on plenty of their videos. They themselves don't just blindly read the comments, and anyone watching them who hasn't seen it, it literally starts with spoiler then has space until what I actually said. Yall are just getting mad for no legit reason

Unstablebeast

just delete it man its a shitty thing to do and you know it

Macs

I've heard a few conflicting reports about Glenn and his departure from the show. One version is they killed him off her so he could take time off and always planned to bring him back. And Angel in Buffy season 3 gave us the precedent.

Sheriff Uchiha

No spoilers and yeah it’s not hidden. πŸ™„

Alison

Because the comment is meant for those who have already seen the show? And the normies have someone look through the comments for them first anyway

Unstablebeast

It's not vague at all and it's not like the second part is hidden behind anything, it's easy to read accidentally. Why do people do this?

Laura_Ali

It's clearly marked spoilers bro, and even if someone did read it, it's pretty vague

Unstablebeast

Bruh delete this comment what is wrong with you?

Blake

Props to Glenn Quinn and the writers for being able to create a fan favorite character in so few episodes. The ending of this episode, from Doyle's death to the end, I consider to be one of Angel's best and iconic moments.

Blake

spoiler Everytime they cringed at spike and buffy, i got the biggest smile on my face thinking about season 5 lol

Unstablebeast

You all should react to Justice League War movie and Wonder Woman 2009 movie and then Batman/Superman Apokolips

BradBoimler

episode 19 misplaced such a good episode and the thing in the case that Sportsmaster and the Riddler stole was part of the creature that survived Blank Manta's attack back in the episode Downtime which was from episode 7 the story telling in this show is so good the way they use over arching story lines chefs kiss

BradBoimler

Suraj, I know it's endlessly amusing to you, but could you possibly stop calling Willow by the wrong name? We all get it, the actress played a character named Lily previously on a different show. But she is Willow on this show. You must know that by now. So could you just refer to her that way from now on? I know that dead-naming or intentionally mis-naming people is a personally sensitive issue for me (for reasons I won't get into) but I am nonetheless asking you to please consider just dropping that 'joke' altogether. I understand that it seems like a stupid non-issue for someone who hasn't had my specific life experience, but it seemed like you did it 4-5 times this episode and I figured there was no harm in at least bringing it to your attention and asking you to stop.

Chris Peterson

The Blink 182 song was played on Buffy before it was released a couple of weeks later. No one in the club would have known them at the time.

Ross43

And with this episode, the dream of the Spuffy ship was born in some of us πŸ˜‹ ... it says alot for both actor's abilities and their innate chemistry that they could charm us into a ship wish with one random episode. Question for the Sunday rundown: We've seen Willow almost spelling Oz and now Willow spelling for her own comfort. What are your thoughts on Willow's behavior and morality lately? Could you see Buffy or any of the other Scoobies using power in this way?

bits

Woooo! Buffy Thursday! another really fun one, surprisingly rewatching it again, alot of good epsidoes in season 4, and for a long time i thought it was the worst season, maybe compared to the other seasons its one of the least, but still having fun time watching it again with the normies. thank you guys...

Ricardo Obregon

Lol you guys butchered Zatanna's name Navi had it right the first time. Also Navis is right that piece at the end was from the alien that was blown up in Atlantis.

Blake

For those who have seen it, I think they'll get more out of it now that they know the characters ... Regardless, it's a great epi

hannemanart

Navi was correct, good memory, it was a piece of the creature that was frozen in ice in that episode where Aqualad goes back to Atlantis. Also, about Marketa's question does Robin ever take his sunglasses off? The reason why Robin wears sunglasses even among teammates is so nobody knows his true identity on the team (except Wally). Robin is protective of his identity to a paranoid level. Remember he goes to school with Artemis at Gotham Academy and Artemis still doesn't realize this, so Robin's doing something right here. He trolled Artemis that one time at school when he wasn't wearing sunglasses and she was like, "who was that?"

Dammn

Holy hell... the doll in the corner in the Young Justice reaction is really damn creepy. Why Normies.... WHY?!

Chaos T

Others have mentioned Glenn Quinn's substance abuse issues but there's a bit more there from my understanding. Nicholas Brendon who plays Xander on "Buffy" also had substance issues and since the two shows were filmed on the same lot they became fast friends and fueled each other's worst impulses. So firing Quinn wasn't just about "Angel" running smoothly but also "Buffy."

Kris

Yeah, if we're being realistic, a lot of people would have died. It would have been catastrophic.

Frankie H

The implications presented by Billy showing up in the grown up world with no plane under him - lotta people falling from the sky around the world and very few heroes able to save them.

Teyon Alexander

I looked and only 3 of them reacted to it, so it’s new for most of them.

David NJ

suraj, this is for you and chris: mallah and brain are both HEs aka MALE. they are a m4m/gay couple. BOTH are french. mallah's full name is monsieur mallah. monsieur is french for "mister". so navi is right, they are both male. the irony of chris assuming mallah is female (need new glasses and some hearing aids cause BRUH how?!) when he is wearing a "love is love" t. only way this could be funnier is if they released this ep in june lol. maybe for the youtube public release lol just pulling ya leg bro

rickie woodson

We really didn't get to know Doyle but his character was enjoyable for the limited time he was in "Angel". It's really tragic Glenn Quinn couldn't overcome his personal demons.

Chaos T

It's not going to be a new reaction because they reacted to "Hush" a long time ago when people were trying to convince them to watch Buffy. Still, it should be an entertaining reaction because they have greater knowledge and context of the Buffyverse.

Chaos T

what that is, is a piece of the creature from that aqualad back home episode. like surj said in the rundown "gotta take notes and remember shit". its all connected and long conish

rickie woodson

Hopefully a full couch for Buffy next week (Hush) 🀞

David NJ

Giles was in rare comedic form this episode. So funny

mary smith

also Doyle's demon friend from the flashback was Sean Gunn, James Gunn's bro
