lately, I've been trying to push my understanding of colors by expanding my idea of what "makes sense". it's a desire to move beyond "sky is blue, grass is green" way of conceptualizing color. I've been doing this in two ways: choosing and layering colors I wouldn't normally and working with limited palettes. I'm particularly inspired by art both influenced by and from the Impressionist period. some examples:
I really love how they use color to depict feelings and emotions rather than visual reality. there are so many beautiful color shifts and colors used in unexpected ways that make a piece come alive, like they possess an energetic spirit. it's something I find hard to even translate into words, because the reaction it elicits feels so evocatively primal and subterranean. it makes me feel a lot! it looks beautiful! I feel compelled to recreate it! 🫶✨
