2023-08-24 10:49:12 +0000 UTCIt is a fantastic show so far. Matt Berry really takes any show he is in to another level.

2023-08-24 10:48:36 +0000 UTCMost of the shows Matt Berry has been in are fantastic apart from Toast of Tinseltown, which is horrifically bad unfortunately and is a shadow of Toast of London.

2023-08-24 07:12:17 +0000 UTCI can't believe I never bothered to watch Toast of London before now, as It's been brilliant so far. In fact just about anything with Matt Berry in is brilliant.

2023-08-23 13:27:20 +0000 UTCHonestly, I've still always called them pins in relation to bowling. Skittles are a hell of a lot smaller than Pins. along with the balls used

2023-08-23 01:33:26 +0000 UTCYeah, the joke about Toast rolling the small white ball down the alley is that he's confused ten-pin bowling for lawn bowling; a related-but-different outdoor sport where the objective is to get the closest ball to the target (which is that small white ball, called the jack). They do actually play lawn bowls in America too, but what I've seen on Google Images suggests it might be a bit of an elitist upper-crust thing. (To be fair, most UK council estates aren't exactly brimming with bowling greens, so it's more or less the same deal). And the pins are skittles to us because it was a traditional pub game over here for centuries; modern-style bowling alleys are a recent import from the States. Weirdly, it seems we may have adopted the word "skittle" for "pin" around the time of American independence, which would explain why it didn't cross the Atlantic until the British confectionery (which was named for the shape of old-school small skittle balls) caught on over there. You still see age-old skittle games sometimes at village fetes or rural pubs, but like Halloween, it's one of those things where the re-imported American version dwarfs the almost-forgotten original custom.
