For some reason this entire special is defined in my memory by the bit where Alan talks about 'Karl/Carl', asking what are his dreams, his hopes, etc...and then concluding 'of course, we'll never know', even though he's ten feet away and could ask him very easily. I like that kind of joke, it's incredibly silly, while also demonstrating just how myopic and profoundly uninterested Alan actually is when it comes to the lives of the working classes. His interest is purely performative, he just wants that sweet sweet United Farm And Animal Feed money.
