After all the videos I have watched, I've only just noticed Del and Rodney's van in the background! It has made my day seeing that.

Agreed 😂

@Daniel French Excusez moi s'il vous plait. je pensais à 'It Ain't 'arf Hot Mum'. Il faut bien l'admettre, les deux séries étaient très similaires.

Classic Ep :)

Daniel French

This was a really good episode bud 👍

As mentioned above Tony Osoba is mixed raced, and is actually Scottish, quite possibly the first Scottish black person on television. He used to be in the Demon Headmaster.

Danny

This is probably my favourite episode in the entire series.

Daniel Davies

The actor who plays Mclaren (Tony Osoba) is actually mixed race. He didn't "brownface". It might not have been well represented on tv at the time, but black people DID go to British prisons at the time. Part of what made Porridge so groundbreaking was that it did address these realities.

Dean

This show is so well-written. I was completely thrown off the scent when a guy in brownface with a Glaswegian accent turned up in Fletcher's cell. It lasted for nearly a minute. I was confused, until I remembered... Black people didn't go to prison in Britain back then, and even if they did it wasn't shown on television. He was just a very good actor, wasn't he ...but the way Gupter got away with robbing a tin of pineapples for the sake of a lame punchline at the end... that bit was predictable.
