Spoiler-free: I enjoyed this episode but a few jokes did go over my head. One of them was  "South of France - we bloody invented it mate!  George the Third, he was the one.  All that swimming business.  And the windbreak, who invented that?  We did. The Brits.  Never mind
covering yourself in Mazola and lying around with a bit of string up your crack.  A quick dip in the briny, dig up a lugworm, and back in the car before you get pneumonia."

Usually, I get the gist of the jokes but this joke went right over my head. I know Mazola is cooking oil, well I assume that's the Mazola he is speaking of. Is he making fun of people who cover themselves in body oil and where G-Strings ??

Spoiler!!!!  Spoiler!!!! Spoiler!!!! Spoiler!!!! Spoiler!!!! Spoiler!!!! Spoiler!!!!

My favorite moments are Richie getting shit on while doing his rain dance and him threatening the old lady in the shop. Also, messing with the customer about the newspaper and treating him as though he was a criminal and he knew the guy lol. Just showing how fast  Richie's shopkeeper power went to his head lol.

Thanks for watching folks. I would love to read your thoughts below and look forward to someone explaining the Mazola joke to me lol.

Bottom: Season 1, Episode 5 's Up

Comments

Josh there's also some Bottom live stage shows which are hilarious but I don't know if they're available on amazon or Netflix or whatever but if you can find them I can recommend them for future reactions. Great reaction again thanks mate

Andy Farmer

Thanks man I appreciate it, I love this show it is awesome =]

After Work Reactions

New victim here. Just have to say, Josh, watching an American find so much to love about this comedy I was lucky enough to grow up with has given me new faith in humanity. You total total bastard! :D

Jake Snow

The end credits are well worth watching. At least once Josh, please? Stop cutting it short. The bit where [SPOILER ALERT] is comedy gold.

Tony Smyth

and when you get a shows title like this instead of 's up it's meant to read as Bottom' s up ๐Ÿ‘

Dave Barratt

Was me who suggested watching the whole credits purely for Eddie's dancing and the kick in the bollocks at the end. Bit of fan knowledge as well, the bench in the opening titles has become a bit of a pilgrimage for us Brits in London and there's a plaque on it saying "In memory of the man, the myth, the legend Dr The Rik Mayall"

Dave Barratt

You should totally do the live shows at some point there are available on YouTube but they are a bit long

dubs

Lmao omg that's great I use to love that show . Them working in the shop screwing things up . Kels obsession with orange soda all fantastic stuff .

After Work Reactions

Btw it's called Bottom, not "The Bottom" !

Ash2

Omg that's hilarious! I wonder why they didn't use his scenes though ๐Ÿ˜‚

After Work Reactions

Awesome man I am really enjoying it so far. Mostly everyone has been saying season 2 is the best

After Work Reactions

Turned into an episode of Kenan and Kel

no, you're allowed to strike in Britain, i think he was just making a joke, though i've no idea if it used to be different with thatcher

Michael

Dunno if you've read any Harry Potter at all but Rik Mayal was originally cast as Peeves the Ghost in the first movie but they never used any of his scenes. He didn't care though cos he said he still got paid a "fuck tonne" of money.

Adam C Turek

The next episode is good. The gas man episode is most people's favourite, definitely a memorable episode. I think season 2 is a lot better than season 1. Best episode out of all episodes for me is season 2 episode 6. I don't personally like season 3 much, first couple episodes are decent in particular the 2nd one I like that but I never go out my way to watch the rest anymore. I normally just watch season 1 and 2 when I rewatch it.

Danny

LOL Hilarious =]

After Work Reactions

Thank you, its a good show for a lazy Sunday I think. I agree that was hilarious =] Stay safe.

After Work Reactions

I love this show so far, cant wait to keep watching =]

After Work Reactions

Interesting, I have never heard that before =]

After Work Reactions

We have Mazola brand oil here lol

After Work Reactions

lol that's hilarious. Sounds like Tay, white as a ghost.

After Work Reactions

Do you want some of this? Do you? Because youโ€™re going to get it you old git!

Christopher John Williams

I love Bottom Sunday ๐Ÿ‘ thanks for the upload. It cracks me up when he starts on the old lady and how she asks him if he's mad ๐Ÿ˜€

BelladonnicHazeyJaneII

Glad you're enjoying this! It gets a lot more bonkers in later episodes. :) Can't wait for "Dough", although that's all the way off in series 3.

Tom

We invented the south of France - places like the south of France and the Portuguese algarve and the Spanish costas were all tiny fishing villages before the jet set boom of the 60s and 70s, when package Holidays became affordable. Those places only started "booming" when us Brits (and other European countries) started travelling there. Hence, "we invented it" ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Steve Small

''Look on the bright side'' as the boys always say. At least you know Eddie's surname now. And yes, he is related.

Tony Smyth

You got the Mazola joke. It's cooking oil. I'm not sure about the 'inventing the south of France' joke but I think it's because England is at the south of France.

Tony Smyth

Brits love the sun but we don't get much so the joke is that when we go to the beach we cover ourself in cooking oil so we can cook (rather than the usual thing people do like using sun protection). He's painting a (mocking) picture of a typical day at a British beach. Brit covered in cooking oil, g-string up the arse, digging for worms for something to do, having a dip in the sea (the briney - brine = salt water), then back to the car before you start feeling the effects of the shit British weather.
