Red Velvet "The Perfect Red Velvet" | ReacttotheK Weekly #47
Added 2024-11-11 16:13:37 +0000 UTCIt's red and it's velvet, but is it perfect? In this episode, Colton is joined by two new reactors, Django and Marcus (both classical guitarists) to discuss Red Velvet's 2018 album "The Perfect Red Velvet." Despite our opinions on each song varying wildly, we all enjoyed the album as a whole, proving there's something for everyone on here, regardless of taste, and maybe that's what the "perfect" red velvet really is.

Hearing Marcus say “I HATE” Perfect 10 and then Sean saying “this is one of my favorites” was an amazing moment. I first heard this song curled up in my bed crocheting, which contributed to me liking this song I’m sure. It does smooth, soft R&B really well. 7/10 Speaking of alternate album structure I’m surprised they didn’t put About Love after Attaboy to taper us down from how Red the previous two songs were. There’s this high pitched synth that helps the chime transition into the chorus which I like a lot, but it’s serviceable pop other wise. Like Sean I like more of a bite to my pop/red red velvet 6/10 Moonlight melody is beautiful! I agree that the production is gorgeous and vocally correct. But, like the rest of the ReacttotheK crew I’m not a ballad lover. Sometimes things don’t have to be for me and that’s OK lol 6/10 Also unironically I want that alternative track listing!! Thanks for another great pod!

2025-01-22 19:30:52 +0000 UTCTime to Love suffers for the same reason All Right suffers. Its cooler, older sister is on the same record. I skip her if I’m not in the mood that Django described 5/10 My second date also has to play when I’m in the right mood for it. I love the EDM break downs(?) and the pre-chorus chanting more than the music box verses. I’m not surprised this one was super polarizing for the crew, but I appreciate all the different perspectives on it! It actually lifted my rating by one point 6/10 Attaboy is my “it’s a banger I fear”. The intro and the bass throughout the song has no reason being that good. And Im glad u talked about it to the synths that sound like chopped up and sped up vocals are so fun. Also, yes the speak rap for this song is so good it’s performed playfully and serves the song’s vibe completely 8/10

2025-01-22 19:23:34 +0000 UTCGosh it’s been two months since I’ve had time to listen to this wow. Anyway, Look is the cooler older sister or All Right. 100% agreed. This song stood out to me on my first listen and I love the syncopated, single-note tag line too! My 9/10 too! I hate I Just. I know that’s so strong, but this mid-tempo song is so slow and boring and skippable to me. Like you said, it doesn’t drop or really go anywhere. I’m glad someone likes it though! 3/10 Kingdom come 10/10 Marcus and I are locked in in opinions so far it’s so funny to me lol

2025-01-22 18:34:48 +0000 UTCMy guess is patreons chose the re-package simply since it has more songs on it? XP Love hearing your comments on parts, and glad you enjoyed hearing Django and Marcus' commentary!

2024-11-25 18:51:58 +0000 UTCI’m genuinely surprised the patreons picked the repackage and not the original - considering the original is the version that made it to the RYM top 10 for k-pop as a genre overall. I’ll probably be commenting in parts. Agreed with Bad Boy being fine! It’s not representative of the record as a whole, but the lead single for repackage albums always does that. For All Right, I definitely heard the CRJ comparison. And honestly, a pop song being compared to EMOTION (2016) is high praise in my books. Funny enough CRJ worked with SM on a track off f(x)’s 4 Walls. So, maybe there’s some connection there. Really enjoying the podcast episode so far! Django and Marcus are great and the alternate track listing is a cool idea for reviewing a whole record.
