in the panel where Oren is saying killing is what do you, should it be is what you do?

He wants to help /change/ minds, not destroy them. That would just be the same cycle over and over again, a constant wheel of teeth, even metal ones. Perhaps under the right circumstances, Oren could have even convinced the old bear to be on their side. Maybe someday Rask will be able to, instead.
I'm very interested to see how the next pages unfold!

I love how the last panel makes it ambiguous whether Oren is looking Rask in the eyes or in the mouth

The author explained in the description of one of the pages that Oren wasn’t actually talking to Rask when he said to be more than instincts.

TELL THEM, RASK!!! The boy has literally been starving himself since he came here, was told to be "more" than his instincts, and now is being told that killing is "what he does." Oren, if this is going to work, you're gonna have to examine your prejudices.

I think it’s very interesting to see even Oren not completely understanding the reason predators kill. He’s been depicted as so enlightened and wise before now, and while this doesn’t mean he isn’t, it is a good example of how the prey perspective is still “you’re killing us because you can” rather than “because you need to eat.”
And, granted, they have no reason not to see it that way, especially when sadistic predators like the cougars do exist. But we also see characters like Yarrow who seem to be quick, efficient killers and don’t seem to cause unnecessary suffering. Sprig’s death would have been quick, if Rask hadn’t gotten in the way.
I do wonder if Rask is about to drop a bombshell that he’s actually starving by not being able to hunt. We’ve seen him eat other things, but I don’t know how sustainable a diet that’s largely lacking in meat is for a marten. I’d guess not very.

I think what it’s supposed to say is “killing is what you do” not “killing is what do you”

I hope this sparks an interesting conversation between them, they’ve only looked at this from a prey perspective
