deciding on the colours before i start inking has turned out to be a huge help for me when it comes to complex pictures. there are some things that you won't catch just when sketching or using tones until you see it in colour, such as tangents or uneven compositional elements. it also helps inform where i can put down flat blacks with confidence since it sets my light source.
