2023-02-18 09:36:32 +0000 UTCI feel like people claiming Scary is irredeemable are dismissing too quickly the fact that Willy is a full-grown man with his own agency. Scary wasn’t holding a gun to his head, forcing him to kill Tony. I do think she’ll have to reflect and carry the burden of her actions. She did betray the party. Ultimately though, Willy killed Tony. Willy was under absolutely no obligation to obey Scary and did it anyway. He saw an angsty teen, in a vulnerable place, and gave her 2 things: 1) validation for her attitude and 2) literal magical power over her environment. Is he doing it in a exploitative way and for his own nefarious purposes? Almost definitely. But people have very quickly downplayed the significance of his obvious manipulation of this teenage girl and placed almost all the blame on Scary.

2023-02-14 08:51:52 +0000 UTCI feel like you are really undervaluing them. They do count spell slots, they use abilities in combat. But this case wasn’t even combat, They would have full spell slots at the time of Tony’s death, and they could easily revive him and it would have been lame and sucked. Revivify in like almost all cases is a lame spell. The example you are able to give where it is cool is so specific. If only one party member has it, and they have used all but one of the spell slots they can use to cast revivify, and someone just died since their last turn cause they could have revived them if it wasn’t, and the villain is running away, and no one else has time to attack, and the healer doesn’t have any other attacks or spells that can take out the villain, and the villain is using a method of escape that’s slow enough where they have time to attack, but fast enough where they can’t chase after them or shoot them after the healers turn, and also, the healer is about to die, not to mention the fact that this choice is only gonna be tough for a very small amount of characters, and most will just insta revive Revivify is a lame spell

2023-02-12 00:14:17 +0000 UTCSorry, HOT TAKE ALERT: but you guys are wrong about revivify, you’re just not playing the game in a way where revivify would be narratively interesting. If Anthony was the type of DM that counted spell slots and you guys where actually using your characters abilities in combat and stuff like a real DnD game it would be really narratively interesting if you used your resources. It’s when you have to make choices like using your last spell slot for a death blow to the villain trying to escape or revivify your downed teammate who just died trying to kill them. You guys just aren’t ever drained of your resources because it’s a narratively driven game where you guys are kinda the superheroes. It’s more reminiscent of blades in the dark honestly especially if you’re integrating this past life making decisions that help you kinda thing. It’s just not a TTRPG driven narrative and I think that’s fine, it’s just gonna mess up the power scaling of the universe sometimes. Still love the pod and the way y’all do it tho! It’s just that this is where the criticism that “y’all don’t really play DnD” rings true. Don’t hate the game, hate the player

Your descriptions allow for the mental image to develop and grow as it will, and doesn’t retcon that naturally grown image. Which means that image is ingrained and set. Making the show even more memorable.
