I'll also note here, in a super necro post: Anthony is only giving Willy 3x Legendary Resistance for the *entire campaign*, and he's now used two of them. Normal villains get 3x *per day*. So I'm honestly fine with a rewritten version that's 3 in the campaign, but also works for skill checks.

Think of the cuffs as a cursed magic item, in the rules of the game when Ron managed to sneak them on Willy would have to have made a Wisdom/Intelligence/Charisma save in order to not be bound by the manacles. By using one of his Legendary resistances Willy is able to save, not from the sleight of hand check which succeeded, but from the save required by the manacles when they were put on. In my books, Anthony has done a pretty good job of behind the screen DMing with this senario.

Anthony can change rules who care if what happened might be MetaGaming the most egregious crime know to D&D. I have an idea for a one shot the Dads play D&D as close to the book with a Rules Lawyer and let’s see if it’s funny.

I agree 100%. To me, it also feels like Anthony specifically targets Glenn with everything; the trial, the prison, and then losing Nick to Jodi seems way harder and much less fair than what the other dads had to do to get their anchors back. Henry's was a short dungeon (where none of the MCs could fully die) and then a movie, Darryl's was fantasy football, and Ron's was just super sad but held no real danger. If they were more even, then I could understand this a bit more, but as it stands it feels like the DM just railroading the story.

It's not really fair play though. I see your point about the time travel, and that is a significant thing for sure, but it is far less significant (especially narratively) than "By the way I broke several rules to make sure Glenn dies"

As a long time DM, it isn't something I would do at my table, as we tend to try and stick close to the rules. (Though we may often trend toward the spirit rather than letter of them.) Everyone on the podcast has always played *very* loose with the rules, Anthony and the players alike. But, it isn't really a cheat as the Dungeon Master's Guide explicitly gives the DM the power to interpret and change the rules. A good DM uses this to make sure the story is interesting and engaging. I think Anthony has succeeded at that so far.

This might be my third or fourth comment on this patreon post and I apologize for that, but I just wanted to get this out there... One of the best things about 5th edition D&D is that you don't really need to *know* the rules to play the game. The worst thing about 5th edition D&D is that you don't really have to know the rules to play the game. It's a double-edged sword. The game is intuitive in such a way that it's easy to ignore the rules and just -- do whatever. The Daddies and the DM have made *so many* "mistakes" while playing the game on this podcast -- not knowing the most basic crap about how their characters work or what the rules are -- and you know what? It's fine. That's fine. It's just the nature of the podcast. They use the very loose nature of 5th edition rules to role-play characters and tell a story. Up until this episode the nature of the double-edged sword of the 5th edition ruleset hasn't been a problem. And in some ways it still isn't. My feelings about the end of this episode are torn. Willy burns a Legendary Resistance to succeed on the saving throw against Glenn's Feeblemind. Ron rolls a 20 Sleight of Hand check to slide the cuff around Willy's wrist. This is an opposed Dexterity check. Willy rolled a 5. Anthony then had Willy use a Legendary Resistance to beat Ron's 20 Sleight of Hand check. The problem is Legendary Resistances are SPECIFICALLY FOR SUCCEEDING AT FAILED SAVING THROWS -- NOT ABILITY CHECKS. That cuff should be on Willy's wrist right now. The players fucked Anthony is the previous episode where they just said "fuck you we succeed at time travel." And in this episode Anthony just said "fuck you, Willy succeeds because I break a rule." I feel like, in a sense, these FUs should balance each other out. But Anthony burning a Legendary Resistance to succeed on an ability check feels egregious. Re-writing the rules in the moment to ensure the BIG BAD doesn't muss his hair. It really felt like a cheat.

*SPOILERS* You know he's probably coming back from hell with back up from his son and jodie right?

Everyone who is upset at how “forced” this felt, that Anthony misused Legendary Resistances — PLEASE REMEMEBER — in the previous episode the players straight up “cheated” at time travel, edited in a sequence to a previous episode, and basically just said “we succeed lol cry more Anthony”. As Willy appeared all I could think was why didn’t anyone at least get a perception check or something before glen was killed. What if the moms took the kids to the soccer game, and the dads searched for them at Universal instead? What if 'Hi I'm Ron' rolled a natural 1 on his first performance? What if Glenn had raised Lark and Sparrow, and Henry had raised Nick? What if Frank was also evil, and had been a spy for the Omega-Daddies in Paeden's body the whole time?
