IRL, Alyssa Carlson became the Youngest Astronaught in the late 2010's/early 2020's to go to Space. Apparently, it's hard as shit to do so, as you need to a masters degree in a scientific field to do so and to have taken part in extensive, several hundred hours worth of flight simulations. For her, and Gai to achieve this, they would have to be studying their asses off their entire lives, sacrificing a good chunk of their childhood and teen years and devoting their a good chink of their late teens to said flight simulations.

GaoGaiGar has this nice level of build up were it gradually drops revelations, and eventually, when you get to the end, it all makes sense as what plot threads or aspects were well established.
