2024-09-18 19:16:31 +0000 UTCConsort Lihua wasn't a bad person before honestly, when we met her in the first episode she acted the way she did because she was scared for her child's life. Lihua's actually a pretty nice person, I do like her character. Also when Maomao left the note about the poison face powder being what was poisoning the baby it wasn't Consort Lihua who disregarded it, but one of her ladies in waiting, which, is complicated... she should have listened, but they're use to other consorts and their servants trying to trick each other to kill their rivals, so they didn't have any reason to believe a suspicious mystery letter. Also I like Maomao's dark serious moment when she slapped that lady in waiting lol, it's a fantastic moment.

Also Curtis you're looking at an Emperor as someone who is a fallible human being like everyone else. To someone living in Imperial China (which this series is heavily based on) The Emperor was seen as the Son of the Heavens. Given a divine mandate (The Mandate of Heaven) to rule over all under Heaven. The man was basically the voice of God on earth. It's not an uncommon belief in a lot of cultures actually. The Egyptians had similar beliefs about their Pharaohs.
