This lead to Bruce to hang up the mantle and being replaced by a man named Jean-Paul Valley that never received Bruce’s blessing. Jean that Bruce’s tactics were obsolete and he decided to be more edgy and killed people. Jean avenged Bruce and defeated Bane. Jean almost killed the Robin at the time and banned him from the Batcave. Bruce ended up taking back the mantle after finding out.
