Hey folks! Here's the ruff dialog and pencil versions of Page 4 of the new Coyena comic. Here we jump to Boreas' part of the flashback, working late in his lab. Once again I'm driving myself a bit crazy with the background in the first panel, but I really need to make the lab look like a working lab in the middle of a project. I tried to keep the equipment period-appropriate, with a lot of hard switches and knobs, tube monitors and physical meters … A few of the hardware enclosures may be veering into the 90s a bit, but, technology is slightly more advanced on the Coyena's world, so there's that. :)
I'd also originally envisioned his lab partner as a tiger, but since I just made Aura's roommate a tigress, I decided to go with a labrador-type dog here instead.
I also briefly touch on Boreas' back story and family lineage here. I do know a bit about his childhood, his mother dying young and how that ultimately led to his attendance at the university; I may or may not tell that story in full someday.
I do know a little bit about his coyote ancestors shown here, as well:
• Harrison, 1840s, a gentleman-adventurer who acquired the crystal in a poker game, and settled down as sheriff of a small town
• Walker, 1860s, served as deputy for several years, taking over as sheriff when his father retired
• Clarence, 1890s, moved to the East Coast to become a city lawyer
• Harriett, 1920s, lives her life under the name "Harry" as a respected merchant and shop owner; never marries but raises her deadbeat brother's son Raymond as her own.
• Raymond, 1940s, artist and beat poet living in the Bohemian section of the city.
• Susan, 1960s, studies art and literature but falls in love with a hyena named Pontus and moves to help him run the family farm in the Northeast and raise Boreas and his younger sister.
Did I ever mention I think about this family way too much? XD
Anyway, that's it for now! As always, thanks for your support, and any questions or thoughts, feel free to comment below or bring them up in the Telegram chat! Have a great week! ❤️
UPDATE 3/14: Only a couple hours before this final page was set to post, I noticed that Boreas was looking a little too lean in that back view in the top panel, and he needed a little bit of tummy showing. Once I saw it I couldn't unsee it, so I quickly made the correction and updated the posts for today and tomorrow. Phew!
