happy new year! january update

hello! it's 2025, happy new year. i hope the year has been good for you thus far!

this month i will be rather bogged down with a lot of slow paperwork/backend-y things that have to be done...

• tax return prep!!! i do this every year but actually i got audited last year (tax office was suspicious that i've been sending/receiving many overseas bank transfers but turns out that just happens when you get money from steam which is outside of japan & also send money to pay for translations by translators who are also outside of japan...). everything was ok in the end but i just want to make sure everything is extra ok this year so i don't get any unwanted attention...

• google play identity verification because if i don't do this google play will take down my apps apparently... i've been putting it off since last year since it seems like a lot of trouble (& judging from what i've heard from other people it can be!) but i have to actually get this done properly now before the deadline & there's just a lot of stuff i need to prepare before i can do it

• i plan on participating in global game jam so i'll be making a game for that with a team! expect that near the end of the month 👀

• i'm also slowly trying to port my current website from carrd to hugo for easy updating... carrd has served me really well up until now but it's a bit hard to use for my purposes! i don't think i'll finish this month but i want to slowly keep doing this so i can get it done eventually. see screenshot above of what it looks like so far 😂

• updating more of my games on itch for better itch launcher support (this just means i need to rebuild them into a single win/linux build instead of separate win & linux builds but i also need to make sure that older games that i'm rebuilding don't have any issues with new renpy so it's slow going)

• if i have time i'd also like to set up a renpy template (since i recently found out this was a thing! https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/template_projects.html ) which would make it quicker for me to start new game projects in renpy!! but this is much lower on the priority list

• a postcard for you all as usual (:

it's a bit of a boring start to the year but it'll help pave the way for me to actually do stuff during the rest of the year. thank you for support from the start of 2025!
