The Male Slave of House Sianella - Chapter 73

Chapter 73: Eunice Callia (1)

“What did you just say?”

Sione’s demeanor shifted abruptly.

The docile, almost puppy-like air she’d adopted moments before vanished, replaced by a wintry chill.

“I spoke with Lady Ainel about the elf who sensed my spirit magic.”

“No, not that. What did the elf say to you?”

“That…she wanted me to become hers?”

“…Yes.”

Sione’s expression soured. Jealousy, directed at the elf who was now clearly a rival, flickered in her eyes.

“I don’t like it when someone lays their hands on what’s mine.”

Like a wild animal whose territory had been encroached upon, she radiated a faint but distinct hostility towards the elf.

Sione’s voice dripped with displeasure, more intense than I’d ever heard.

It was far more unsettling than her growl at Sion Sianella in the gardens, back when she’d still been…well, a rather rotund individual.

“I’m not pleased.”

Sione’s voice was flat, each word carefully enunciated.

She already possessed my slave certificate and ownership papers, and my position as her personal attendant further bound me to her. Why was she so upset over a few words from an elf, as if I'd actually been stolen away?

I couldn't help but chuckle at her misplaced jealousy.

I couldn’t just leave her in this sour mood, though. I needed to placate her somehow.

I gently stroked her hair, twirling a strand around my finger as I spoke.

“There’s no need to be upset. I would never become that elf’s, even in death. I am your slave, after all.”

“But…”

“Besides, we made promises to each other, and you…you care for me. Why would I ever want to belong to someone else?”

“Ah.”

Sione lowered her head, her face hidden. She seemed embarrassed by the mention of our promises.

Though her face was concealed, I could see her ears, flushed crimson, peeking out from beneath her silvery-white hair.

“I informed Lady Ainel about what the elf said, so there’s no need to worry about that.”

Sione nodded silently, acknowledging my words.

Then she fidgeted nervously, glancing at me hesitantly before clasping her hands together and looking up.

“…Ray.”

“Yes, Lady Sione?”

“What…is your ideal type?”

“My ideal type?”

Why was she asking about my ideal type now, of all times?

I stared at her, my expression questioning, and she fidgeted even more, clearly eager for an answer.

“Yes, your ideal type. I realized I’d never asked, and I’m curious…Is it alright if I ask?”

Well, it was a harmless question. I could answer that easily enough.

I stopped stroking her hair and shrugged casually.

“I prefer someone cute and affectionate.”

“Cute and affectionate…So, a woman with a more masculine personality is your ideal type?”

…Masculine was a rather jarring descriptor, but…

In this world, “masculine” was essentially synonymous with “feminine,” from my perspective.

“Yes, you could say that.”

Sione fell into deep thought at my confirmation, then hesitantly asked,

“You don’t…happen to like men, do you?”

What the—? What kind of absurd question was that?

My expression hardened.

“Are you serious?”

“Well, you said you like masculine personalities, and…sometimes men…engage in homosexual relationships.”

“Ah…”

This gender-reversed world was proving to be far more challenging for a staunch heterosexual like myself than I’d initially anticipated.

Sione’s words conjured the image of Bronte’s face, his mustache twitching as he spoke in that irritatingly nasal voice.

I shuddered, barely managing to maintain a neutral expression.

I had to ensure Sione didn’t develop any further misconceptions.

I pulled her into an embrace.

“I swear to the gods, I’ve never even considered a homosexual relationship.”

“Really?”

Why was she asking again?

“Of course. Would I lie about something like this?”

If she weren’t my master, I would have gladly choked her.

***

The morning passed quickly, and soon it was midday.

I was on my way back to my quarters.

Ainel had come for Sione.

Apparently, there were matters to discuss regarding yesterday’s incident and the demon worshippers, which required Sione’s attention.

Ainel also mentioned meeting with various noble families from the western region, starting with House Beleia, to which Noah belonged.

It seemed Ainel intended to take charge of her daughter's social interactions today.

Since I had no idea when Sione, who would be accompanying Ainel throughout the palace, would return…

And there was no point in waiting alone in her empty room…

I'd been granted permission to spend the rest of the day as I pleased.

Perhaps because I hadn’t had a proper break in days…

My steps were lighter than usual.

‘This is the life.’

I’d long since abandoned any concern for Sione and her social engagements.

I had free time, and I intended to enjoy it. I wasn't going to waste it worrying about my troublesome master.

Just as I was happily contemplating how to spend my day,

“Oh…you’re…”

A voice, tinged with an unsettling familiarity, called out from beside me.

My light steps faltered, replaced by weariness and annoyance.

I turned my head slowly, dreading what I would see.

‘That’s—’

A woman with warm brown hair that reached her shoulders, deep, dark eyes that seemed to hold an abyss within them, and a subtly fox-like face that hinted at a hidden coldness.

‘Eunice Callia.’

The eldest daughter of House Callia, a Marquis house on the eastern border of the kingdom.

“…The male knight from yesterday.”

Eunice’s eyes lit up the moment she recognized me.

I stopped walking, and she immediately approached.

Eunice Callia, known for her cold demeanor and sharp intellect, now wore a disarmingly friendly smile.

“Do you remember me?”

Remember her? How could I forget?

The woman who’d stood behind her bloodstained sword and shield, whispering “a true male knight.”

With such a memorable personality, forgetting her would have been far more difficult than remembering.

I nodded reluctantly.

“…Of course. Lady Eunice Callia, eldest daughter of House Callia. I was quite impressed by your actions yesterday.”

I hadn’t actually seen Eunice fight; I’d been too busy dealing with the demon worshippers to notice anyone else. But I had seen her bloodstained sword and shield, both bearing the marks of battle, so I figured a bit of flattery wouldn’t hurt.

Eunice’s eyes shone even brighter at my compliment.

‘…Why is she reacting like that?’

Her sudden enthusiasm was rather unnerving.

A wave of uncomfortable attention washed over me.

“You knew my name and family.”

“Of course. How could I not know the eldest daughter of House Callia, the Marquis house responsible for defending the border against the Great Forest and the Empire? Besides, though not officially recognized, your family’s influence rivals that of a Duke house.”

Eunice nodded, clearly pleased with my assessment.

“Indeed. You seem quite knowledgeable about House Callia. In that case—”

She smiled faintly.

“—may I ask your name?”

“I am called Ray.”

“Ray…Very well. Then, would you mind speaking with me privately for a moment?”

“Speaking privately…about what…?”

Eunice circled me, her gaze taking in my appearance before she stopped and stood before me, her hands clasped behind her back, a playful smile on her lips.

“I would like to discuss yesterday’s events with you, Ray.”

She tilted her head slightly, her eyes narrowing as her dark gaze fell to my chest, where my heart—and my mana—resided.

It felt like she was staring directly into my soul.

Even for a man, this intense scrutiny was unsettling.

I looked at her, my expression troubled.

“After all, the talk of Sianella’s male knight is quite the trend in the palace right now.”

She took a step closer.

“And I have always dreamed of meeting a true male knight. I couldn't possibly miss this opportunity.”

Eunice smiled, a seductive glint in her eyes.

“Especially since, Ray—”

She brought her hand to her mouth, cupping it as she whispered,

“—you are the real thing, unlike all those other imitations.”

TL Note

Ray did say that he doesn’t like the women of this world a couple chapters ago, so Sione isn’t really wrong in thinking that way…
