Hi peeps,
Here are the final WIP images as well as the framed painting of The Beacon!
The last week or so was focused on finishing the piece and then framing it, and it was a surprisingly chaotic process...
The concept of the show this piece is for is that all works are under 12x12 (inches), and I had a moment of panic realising that my painting is almost exactly 12x12 unframed. And since it's on paper, it needed to be framed before shipping, and it occurred to me that I didn't consider that perhaps the measurement requirements included the frame.
Meaning that I needed to find a way to make the whole thing under 12x12 once framed. T_T
Considering my piece is almost (key word) 12x12 already, I needed to find a frame that would fit it, but only just. Luckily, I had a tiny amount of wriggle room as the paper I used was in fact just under 12x12 (the cover of the pad lied), and after I cut off the border of the piece, it was small enough that I could fit it in a frame that was exactly 12x12. Am I making sense? Am I saying 12x12 too much?
Anyway, after I bought several frames, had to rip them open because I somehow managed to pick some that wouldn't come apart, mashed pieces together from various ones to make the ideal frame, had that completely collapse in my hands like a house of cards right as I was about to finish it all off, screamed a bit, and cobbled a final one together, here we are!
Thank god.
I spent 3 days on framing that piece. That's too long T_T

And finally, here is a scan :

I'll be honest, at this point I've been staring at it for so long that I can't see it objectively and I find it a little stressful to look at, but if I push past that, I do really like it.
While I don't think I followed my gamut quite as well as I would have liked, I learned A TON painting it, and I am rather pleased with the feeling of light and warmth that emanates from it.
This piece has sparked musings about my painting style and what I identify with, which I would be happy to share with you if you want to hear them, but overall, I would rate this a success.
I hope you'll like it too!
I would, as always, love to hear your thoughts :)
I'm off to see Barbie now, but I hope you are all doing well, and thank you for reading all of this.
Love you all,
M
