Hello lovely people,
I finally started a new painting so I wanted to share my progress so far with you.
This piece is very difficult to photograph, no picture seems to capture it well because a lot of the detail is very subtle. The real life image is smoother and more delicate in values than the photos might make it appear.
I am a little ways from being finished with it, and I am still somewhat unsure as to whether I want to add anything to it or not, but I do like its direction so far.
I went for something very muted and fairly high contrast as I want to push myself to be more daring with my values. Pushing the body in the background to be as much in darkness as it is was nerve-wracking but I am learning a ton in the process.

I experimented a little in Procreate halfway through the process by taking a picture of the painting and photobashing in some details I was considering, such as tattoos, or hair and a nightgown.
Neither one convinced me, so I went ahead with painting the snake first so I could have a better idea of the final detail and values.

This is definitely one of those painting that I need to take a few days break from every so often to ruminate on.
I haven't come to all my final decisions yet, so it will probably evolve a fair bit before it is done, and I will of course show you that process as it unfolds!
I hope you are all well,
All my love,
M
