Hi everyone,
Here's a little update on the piece I am in the process of painting, "Shelter".
This concept was initially supposed to represent the head in the stomach with the hair flowing out and turning into silk, but something about it didn't connect with me and I didn't feel excited to paint it, so I decided to go back to the drawing board completely and redesign it in a way that spoke to me more.
This is the result!
I shifted the position of the head so that it now rests sideways inside the body, and is floating in water.
The left hand of the character is mimicking the gesture of closing a coat and the right hand is feeling the rain fall. I wanted to give off the impression of futile protection, of need for shelter when everything around is slowly engulfing you.
The body is filling up with water from above and below, and nothing can really stop it, and it is unclear whether the character realises that and is either resigned or confused.
Painting this piece is proving challenging but thoroughly enjoyable, and I can't wait to paint the rain to see how that changes the atmosphere of the whole piece.
I should have this one finished some time next week, at which point I will be able to send all pending rewards, and move on to the next painting, which will be the last in this series.
You can find a few process shots below.
I hope you enjoy it so far, and that you are all well!
Love,
M
