Hi peeps,
Here's your Real-time video for Feb!
I'm a few days late with that one, so sorry, the Process Videos have been sucking up all my time.
This video is a real-time version of the above sketchbook portrait painting.
It does not have music or a voice-over, and is about half an hour long.
I have listed the reference below, as well as an overview of the supplies I used.
My objective with this painting study was to practice using acrylics in a watercolour-like fashion. My main interest in the medium was to apply it in the same way I would watercolours, but take advantage of the fact that layers don't reactivate, to see if I could achieve a layered look that wasn't blended.
I started off with a cool underlayer, laying down my shadows, and then went in with a warmer wash to add some skin colour to the face, and finally went in with a more opaque skin colour to see how the underpainted shadows would come through.
I tried keeping the whole thing loose and textured.
I finished things off with a dark sepia outline, which wasn't part of the plan initially, but I found myself wanting to emphasize contrast and definition once I had finished painting.
I hope you'll enjoy this peak into my process!
If you have any questions, leave me a comment! <3
Take care!
