"Yours is the heart of a star" : Finished piece

Hi lovely people,

I hope your week-end is going well?
Over here, all is good, apart from my being a little ill and weak. Damn my poor boyfriend whom I caught it from, haha.
Despite that, I managed to finish this piece I'd been experimenting with for so long!
And I have to say, I am not mad about it. :)

In fact, I'm quite happy with the final result.
My experimenting, and sketches, and studies, and note-taking, helped me a great deal, and although I still don't know if this is the style I want for myself, I feel closer to that goal, and I feel like taking my time in creating this piece allowed it to feel more reflective and accomplished, and less rushed.
I feel content with my process, which is something I was struggling with recently.

I usually have one word titles, but I needed more of a story for this one, so I went for a phrase. "Yours is the heart of a star". I want this piece to express turmoil and hope, pain, and the beauty that can come from building on it. If that makes sense.

I will be working on the Process PDF for this this week-end, and will start work on the August painting next week.

Today's Youtube video will be the timelapse of this painting also!

I hope you are all well, and that you like this new painting!
I'd love to know what you see in it if you feel like sharing!

Love you all,

M

Of course, I adore all of Miyazaki's work! I didn't inspire myself from it here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it inspired me without me realising. his work is a big influence.

Have you ever seen (or read since it was a book first) Howl’s Moving Castle? The title of this piece plus the image makes me think of the story a bit. In a good way. I won’t spoil it if you haven’t seen it.

<3

I love it!!

I'm glad you think so! It was experimental, but it's so nice to see everyone react so positively :)

Yes, that's a great way to see it too ^^

I'm so glad you do, thanks Dach! And I love that you get a different feeling from it too ;)

Thanks Taylor! Experimenting is a lot more fun than I thought it would be for me, and I'm excited to see where it takes me with future pieces. I hope you'll find it beneficial too! (And thankfully, I always seem to be less ill than my bf, so I usually can still function, but this one is lingering longer than I thought...)

That's exactly what I was hoping it would do! I'm so glad it comes across that way to you! It did feel sad and tragic to me too without something to tamper and mellow it, so I added the title, and I also made sure not to put an expression of distress or pain on the character's face. I'm so glad you like it!

Hahahaha!! :)

Thank you Laura! I got your emails by the way, thank you for those! I won't be able to reply right away but I'll try and do it asap :)

I wish you could see the original! Artworks are always very different in person :)

The title somehow elevates this piece. Love it!

Hi Erin, thank you so much for joining the fam, it's a pleasure to have you! I just sent you a personal message with some info about this month ;) Glad you liked my new video also!

Loved watching the video on YT and your feelings on taking time and not rushing art. New Patreon here- and yay I’m so excited to be here!

I know right! I'm so fascinated with the first painting vs this one :) I'm so glad you like it!

That’s beautiful wow. I didn’t get turmoil. I mean. I 100% see it. But it’s beautiful. Like an “explosion of love.” But I can TOTALLY see by your meaning. I mean it’s urs so Ofc it’s right. But I love it. So much

I’m so happy you found a way to complete this piece!! I get this a lot with my own work, how I have an idea but no matter how I work the piece it just doesn’t seem right. I love to see you experimenting with your style and pushing boundaries, it’s truly inspiring!! (And my boyfriend also got me sick! Apparently it’s that time of year. I hope you feel better soon!)

The name you chose for this piece not only labels it but adds to the viewing experience. When I first saw your sketches I thought it looked like a very sad piece, like this figures heart was ripped away from them due to a terrible agony. With the name I see it more like a fire or energy burning within, that drives one to sacrifice a very special piece of themselves to be put towards something greater. I love it!!

All I can say is WOW I'm BLOWN away

It touches my soul and my mind...theres the wish to see the original lol ... Its wonderful, really wonderful...😱😍😃

This is AMAZING!!! Wow :D this has come a long way since the initial sketches. Stunning
