He's been a mixed bag recently. You'd have to go back 7 starts to the beginning of June to find a true gem. But over his last 6 starts he's 3-1 and the yanks are 5-1 in his starts albeit with a few slugfest wins mixed in. He'd definitely benefit from some time off during the upcoming ASB...

Also, fwiw, don't feel too bad about pausing remembering a random yankee. it's like you said, a space filler during a pandemic, never expected it to stick around indefinitely. Also, there's a thing called "google" so "where are they now" segments aren't really what they used to be.

2022-07-05 20:27:32 +0000 UTCI forget where I read this but he is still striking out a ton in AAA and that his pitch recognition skills would get exploited at the big league level. I'm with you in that being better than Gallo has been is a low bar to clear, but I think Florial is playing in such a way that he is absolutely auditioning and raising his value as part of a trade.

2022-07-05 14:26:49 +0000 UTCLuis Castillo was *technically* traded four times before his debut, but the fourth trade was really just undoing the third trade. The Marlins sent Castillo to the Padres as part of a 7-player deal, and one of the players coming back to Miami was Colin Rea. Rea got hurt in his first inning, and Miami said that San Diego sent them an injured player. So the Padres took Rea back and returned Castillo to Miami.

2022-07-05 13:05:00 +0000 UTCAlso, how nice is it to see Volpe right his ship. He has followed his .898 OPS for June with a solid start to July (1.271 OPS). I was worried after his mediocre April and May, but I was not paying enough attention to his promotion to AA ball, and I can see that he (and most players) took time to adapt to a new level and then returned to his true talent level. If he has a great July I would love to see him spend August at AAA to start that adaptation to a new level so he could be ready for an appearance at the MLB level in 2023!

I think Andujar is better at the plate than Gallo, all things considered, but they worry about his defence. But Florial is a CF and has good range (has that Bernie Williams glide, though I am not comparing him talent-wise). After his .918 OPS for June, his 1.896 OPS to start July (of course, SSS) makes me think he could come up on a trial basis as the trade deadline approaches (and they arguably could use two OFs).
