House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 The Red Dragon & The Gold

Omg... what in the world do we do?

What a crazy episode! All we can say really is where the heck does it go from here?

House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 The Red Dragon & The Gold

Comments

This broke my heart, sobbing like a baby

Wendy McIntyre

Hey, reason behind the Black Council shutting up on Corlys and not doing so on Rhaenys was not just because he is a guy (ofc thats part of it) but also because Corlys is 1. the most powerfull person on the council (having the biggest fleet of westeros) and also 2. He is a Legend! He hast traveled almost to every place in the known world! That is sadly not really mentioned in the Show...

Robin Nussbaumer

I loved how they showed the bond between the riders and their dragons. The way Sunfyre was so happy to see Aegon and Rhaenys hugging Meleys 😭. Poor babies. And then the look Meleys and Rhaenys give each other just before they die. I can’t! 😩

StephL

Poor Aegon man, no one ever trained him for his role as King, now they all ignore him and blame him for his shortcommings in ruling. He lost his son and heir and no one helped him to work that out. He seeks help from his mother, genuinely as we can see from his expressions, and she just shuts him down like he's worth nothing. And now his brother attacked him and Sunfire is probably dead and crippled (Aegon and Sunfire have the strongest bond of all Dragon/Rider-Duos). I know he can be a prick, but still, no one deserves that, such a tragic story :(

Florian

Another Westeros story hitting full stride - acting, music, story, suspense, dialogue, visuals Another battle episode where a dude get pancaked on the field lol Well met

Jason Cossota

it really did hurt!

Mr. October

lol yes because people said it was a common thing that we shoulda known lol idk

Mr. October

Ok lol yes that def helps. I don’t remember hearing anything about that being a thing in this GOT/HOTD world so I was confused. So it makes sense that it’s a reference to something else. Thanks for confirmation

Dragons in The Hobbit series are known for their love of gold. Smaug is the dragon in The Hobbit and he both sleeps and protects a massive pile of gold. I am pretty sure that's what they were talking about. Hopefully that helps. :D

Reaction Junkie

One thing you know about dragons is they like gold to sleep in? Sleep in or protect? What does that mean? Lol

Chaz D

Aemond 🔥🐐

Monkey D. Tomy

This is a quote off the top of the head but George R R Martin said something along the lines of "I love to write about the human heart in conflict with itself" and that fits with one of the points you're making I think you're totally right and this sort of stuff does happen in the real world so I acknowledge all if it! It's just hard for me not to consider him a spoiled brat at the end of the day haha and that makes it harder to like him personally! now i do wanna say my mindset came from Aegon telling his mother "Rhaenyra can have the crown i dont want it" or something along those lines but I like the perspective you have that his father passing over him as heir, regardless of how well intentioned Visery's was, regardless his reasonings, that it had this deep rooted affect on him that made him feel like his father hated him. It atleast explains his behaviors to a degree!

Josh Viz

This episode hurt the first time I watched it, it hurts now rewatching it with yall! Great vid guys im glad we're all experiencing this one together it's cool!

Josh Viz

Ah okay. Have a great day then 😁

Josh Viz

Listen If you disagree that he's dumb thats fine I'm not even trying to change your perspective on a character you like. I'm happy you're enjoying the show and Aegons journey! Its the putting down others perspectives that I wanted to address I just think it's reasonable to have a different opinion given all that Aegon has done. For some fans his actions speak volumes to his character. For others it dosent I suppose and thats ok

Josh Viz

Don't call me "bro". My point is that there is a degree of grace afforded to some characters and not others. I have seen this watching THE REACTIONS. My comment was towards THE REACTION. I have never observed YOU WATCHING THE SHOW and thus I could care less what YOUR opinions are. I have used caps so then can be no confusion as to what exactly I am saying as this is the last comment that I will make on this topic. If you want to debate further, then you are more than welcome to debate the wind.

Thabiso Mfana

This is still pretty off topic but sure I'll go off topic and indulge you. Daemon is a murderer Jamie is a rapist Rhaenys is a mass murderer and Rhaenyra is basically a murder too those are all facts. Let me ask you this when tf did I say they weren't? This is why I brought up the whataboutism because you're right it would be mighty hypocritical of me to disagree with you on those points so its a good thing I never had that stance lmaooo you wanna get back to the actual subject or what? Aegons stupid

Josh Viz

"Whataboutism" is relevant when calling out hypocrisy. If your position is the same when it comes all those characters then fair enough. However, if not, then you're a hypocrite.

Thabiso Mfana

My response is simply an answer to why we get to call him an idiot and why we don't need to have sympathy. You called our perspective lazy and that theres a lack of appreciation so im disputing that and only that. Your whataboutism has nothing to do with what I'm saying.

Josh Viz

They had the opportunity to show how dragons should bond with Jon.

Flexorcist

i think GoT showed a pretty good bond between Dany and her Dragons. And those were the only dragons, so...

Louie Anderson

Yeah I see that for sure, I don't think it's that unrealistic tho, it sounds just like any other edgy punk teenager with no consequences for their actions. I'm sure everyone can imagine a person that talks about wanting to do so many things and never does them and just keeps going out drinking with the boys. He grew up thinking his father hated him and had no ambition for power and he only changed when the crowd cheered his name and he felt loved and that was only a couple weeks before where we are now so he is still just now trying to figure out how to be a king. The reaction he gives after alicent says to do nothing is the perfect way to express his emotions about his situation and I found it to be a very relatable and human reaction from somebody that is feeling neglected even if they cause some of it themselves

Christian

I've never really understood that side of Aegon. Yeah I can identify his wound it's "I'm not loved or needed" and I think they are doing a great job at expressing said wound it makes his character more complex totally....but like bro you're the King, your entire life the greens have wanted to love and respect you the greens have been depending on him since his birth and he chose to be lazy and cruel all his life, he chooses to run from an inheritance that can give him all he desires...? Bro wants to seem smart but he dosent study? He wants to be a great warrior but has never battled? It's like he's his own worst enemy! To me it feels like hes just a spoiled brat In the end because he did this stuff to himself didn't he...?

Josh Viz

Daemon is a murderer, Jamie Lannister was a rapist as well, Rhaenys murdered hundreds of people in the dragon pit (and before you defend that, note that episode 1 of season 1 established that the dragon pit has a back door) and Rhaenyra sanctioned the murder of an innocent man so that his body could he burned and used to fake Laenor's death. Yet these characters are rightfully seen in a nuanced manner whereas Aegon is not at all. In any case I was speaking specifically about Aegon in this episode and frankly the idea that we must ALWAYS talk about a character's previous worst moments when assessing their actions in a particular moment is utterly nonsensical. Furthermore my comment was not directed at you in any way.

Thabiso Mfana

You forgot to mention the part where he's a serial rapist? "Why does no one feel sympathy for Aegon" hmmm child fighting pits did that bother anyone else? His own bastard kids living in a gutter what layer of his deeply flawed character Is that one under? His entire life his family has wanted him to step up and grow up to be a great king but he wasted it. Rhaenyra and Aemond were raised in the same castle under the same father and yet both of them as heirs take their positions very seriously and prepared themselves to rule so why does Aegon suck as a king? how brilliant was it of Aegon to get maniuplated by club foot and his decision to give the hand to Criston Cole of all people was that a wise choice? Aegon is an idiot bro but hey roll your eyes at us it ain't that big a deal at the end of the day.

Josh Viz

I'm sorry but the Aegon hate is over the top (I'm reacting to the "I won't miss [Aegon]" comment). Why does no one feel sympathy for Aegon trying to prove himself? His council committed actual treason by conspiring to make war plans without his knowledge (something thaf Rhaenyra rightly called treason in the previous episode) and rather than take his council members heads he decided to make a desperate move to prove himself. The truth is that Aegon is a fundamentally tragic character who is desperate for approval (as was seen in episode one when he was agreeing to everything that the petitioners asked for) and so the whole "Aegon is an idiot" thing is a bit lazy and shows a lack of appreciation for the multiple layers that he has as a deeply flawed character. This line of thinking made me roll my eyes while watching the reaction.

Thabiso Mfana

He def called aegon the idiot lol. Great reaction

Arthur B

The battle at the end was beyond amazing but for me my favorite moments are Alicent and Rhaenyra interacting/talking with their sons. The contrast between the 2 is so interesting. We can see that Aegon seems to be quite a sensitive person and really wants to prove himself. But Alicent doesn’t see this. Him asking her what he should do shows that he seeks for her approval (he’s a mommy’s boy) but she in no way gives it. Some people have compared them both to Cersei and Joffrey but i think that’s very wrong. Aegon CARES A LOT about Alicent’s opinion and what she think of him. Joffrey on the other hand couldn’t care less. Also when Alicent says ‘or what’, it shows her power over him as a mom. Cersei lacked that. I personally think Aegon would listen more if they gave him the space and responsibility to say what he thinks and make decisions, instead of dismissing what he says, telling him he’s basically useless and that he should do nothing. Alicent is (in)directly the reason he drunkly decided to go to war with Sunfyre. On the other hand you have Jace who’s clearly quite irritated with his mother and wants her to take action. Rhaenyra even raised him in a way, that she was so shocked when he talked to her with an attitude bc he has probably never done that before lmao it was funny to see. Jace is so concerned for his mom, we see him quite angry and irritated like this for the first time. But when Rhaenyra called for him to tell him about the song of ice and fire, he wanted to clarify that he’s doing this for both of them and bc he’s worried, then Rhaenyra touched his face basically saying ‘i know and i understand’. Rhaenyra really is the best mother. I thought that was really cute. Honestly Jace is just the perfect heir. So yeah this is what i loved about it. Great reaction as usual🥰

Julia Miala

This episode made me like Aegon a lot more tbh, He never wanted this power to begin with and his family forced him into it for their own gain and then his brother and hand are plotting without him, not that he has all the answers but if you are the king you would want to at least be involved, its not like he was constantly telling people to not take action, he would've supported their plots and then his own mom said he's useless and should stay out of the way and be quiet and all he wants is to be useful and to be loved which going back to season 1 is something he never felt he was. Incredible character writing imo. I'm also glad the real fighting has started because I was sick of the pacifist nonsense from Rhaenyra haha I get she wanted to make sure it was right and all that but it didn't matter. The war started with no going back the moment Aegon was crowned and Lucerys was killed and literally everybody understood that besides her. If she listened to her council and specifically daemon then they would've routed out or cut off this Cole army quickly and her biggest dragon and rhaenys would be alive. Just completely fumbled the bag to start this war because despite what she says her cautiousness is a major weakness to this point. Fortunately she must change now

Christian

i loved that part

Mr. October

I should’ve known better??? I don’t live in your world, maybe u should stop creating others people’s narratives, I haven’t read the book I was voicing a thought and now yall are making me feel bad and never wanna comment again cuz I have to be so calculated with what i have to say, don’t be so harsh, there’s room for mistakes

Remi López

im perfectly relaxed "bruh" but this is 2024. you should know better than to do that. people are so proud of themselves for reading the book they can't keep their mouths shut.

Louie Anderson

no no let them believe hes deaddddd LOL

Amy Donelson

Bruh relax

Remi López

There was also supposed to be a Jon Snow series north of the wall, but they cancelled it a few months ago.

Chris

Guess that means Aemond is king, and I'm here for it.

Chris

cmon man, they saw what they were supposed to see. no need to say anything else.

Louie Anderson

When this ended last night I tried to stay up for a few more hours to see if y’all would post but alas, I had to wait. So glad y’all got it up!!

Clint

2 things: One, the movie Tony is thinking of is called "Dr. Strangelove." Second, Vhagar is a female dragon lol you guys keep calling her a "he" 🤣

Adrian Rhodes

Aemond is next in line. Like Daemon was with Viserys. Jaeheara is a kid and a girl. This reminds me on one aspect that GOT dropped the ball, the bond between rider and dragon. They hinted at it with Seasmoke being lonely, and they showed more of it here. It was very moving, even Aegon had a relationship with his dragon who like him is very vain and playful.

Flexorcist

Aemond is officially the pettiest Targaryen lol, Daemon still up there but he never cooked Viserys intentionally

TC24

House of the Dragon finally living up to the Game of Thrones name

Pick up on so much more watching it a second time 😮
